Although Oakland hip-hop duo Zion I have been absent from our pages since their April release of Drop It On The 1, it’s safe to say that the pair have been putting in major work. On top of preparing for the October release of their new album Shadowboxing they’ll also be embarking on a nationwide tour that same month. To keep fans fulfilled until early October, Zion I have dropped off their Shadowboxing lead single Float, which is a collaboration between the group and DJ Minnesota. MC Zumbi seems to literally Float along on the song as he addresses the nonbelievers and boasts about his smooth living. Together DJ Minnesota and Zion I’s other half DJ AmpLive provide Float with its spacey production, which seems pretty fitting considering the song’s title. Shadowboxing will be released on October 2, while the duo will embark on their national tour on October 4.

Zion I returns with a HUGE bang. I could listen to this instrumental on repeat while zoning out. This song will put you in a trance, take you to a special place, and then hype you up. Pretty impressive.

This was pretty average for me. Decent flow in the verses, but the chorus sounds ordinary. Not something I'd add to the MP3-player...
