Y.S.‘s long, hard grind as a member of the local rap group the Kompound Klick finally paid off in ‘07, when the 16-year-old San Francisco native inked a distribution deal with Sony BMG Latin. Following the hit single/video High School Wifey, the Nicaraguan and Samoan-blooded MC has offered-up an additional adventures with his lady; this time around, She Be Knowin’ what it takes to attract him. Joining the story is fellow KK member, Big Laz, and hook vocals courtesy of Big Geminii. On the production side of things, Swampkat‘s “super chill” beat makes She Be Knowin’ the perfect background music for any relaxing moment, including slow drives in the drop-top or heck, even blogging!
Y.S. has a pleasant melodic flow that is a cross between an average rapper and an average singer. Surprisingly, he combines both of his talents to produce an above-average vocal. The guest appearances on this song do the same. Once again, another great record to start the summer.
I like how it starts cuz my boy Geminii always delivers: great rap and singing voice. This leads me to the reason why I don’t like this song despite its potential: YS voice! Come on man! Does he even speak like that?! If he does, I don’t recommend it for raping. Annoying voices don’t help you at all, as Lil Boosie and Hurricane Chris can tell you. Beat is decent.
Intro and hook are phenomenal. I was looking for T-Pain's name, you could of fooled me on this track. With all seriousness, I think Y.S's voice hasn't fully matured yet, because he's still going thru puberty. It takes time to reach the adolescent stage, it doesn't happen overnight-- hormones, such as androgens develop the voice box (no pun intended)and full adult pitch is usually around 16 years of age. Anyhow, this was a great start. Big Geminii did a nice job, I didn't sample his new album yet but the song "hypnotized" is worth listening to. A 2.5 right here.
I wonder if SHE BE KNOWIN how much all that ink costs? But in all seriousness, YS has potential. He is young in the game (and in life), so he has plenty of time to figure things out. After all, its easy to do it at the beginning, not later in your career (cough, Snoop).
Geminii kills it with the hook and i love the flow of the song, the only problem is i dont think Y.S. stood out too much even though it is his song. Still hot tho
