As hip-hop heads are well aware, being recognized as a true G isn’t just a matter of spending four years at the University of Hard Knocks and taking home a diploma to hang on your office wall. For one thing, it’s hard to find a suitable wall when your office is the streets. More importantly, ‘hood credentials aren’t earned once and for all, but asserted and subsequently defended against all comers. On YP‘s latest single, the Raekwon-cosigned up-and-comer shows us how it’s done, declaring himself street-Certified and daring anyone to say differently. Jeff Wallace takes a uniquely catchy approach on the production tip, overlaying a syncopated boom-bap rhythm with Chipmunk-sampled “oh”s as the Windy City representative (and freestyle series alum) reminds listeners that, despite being an artist on the rise, he’s got his feet planted firmly on the pavement. Though not slated for inclusion on the currently-untitled follow-up to YP’s Booth-sponsored No Sleep mixtape, this paper-stacking anthem should nonetheless please the artist’s growing fanbase. Keep it locked for the latest tunes, as well as release details on the new project!

I havent use this phrase in a while but...This beat is bananas. YP went equally hard over the production, he sounded at home.

I am not sure that "Certified" certifies YP... but that is because we certified him when we released his "No Sleep" tape last year. The production here grows tiresome after awhile - especially when it slows up before speeding back up - but YP doesn't miss a beat (pun intended).

The beat isn't what it was hyped up to be & the lyrics are subpar. His flow is what keeps from him getting 1 star rating.

I like the beat, but I think it's overpowering him a bit...

That beat does in fact bang. I can do without the "oh" everywhere but then I'd just be nit-picking. YP matches the energy of the beat with his flow and that's half the battle for me. Nice representation of talent right here.

The beat is definitely the strongest part of this track. YP's flow is pretty solid, but I'd like to hear more form him lyrically. I feel like the beat is so fresh, that it makes YP sound better than he should.
