Youngs - Rhymin'
Artist: Youngs
Producer: Sketch
Album: Fountain of Youth II Mixtape
Label: Rarebreed Extended Family
Encore, encore. When we dropped Youngs’ DJBooth debut track Him & Her a couple weeks ago, the response was so overwhelmingly positive that we had to bring the anything-but-Normal emcee back for a sophomore effort (see, he’s from Normal, Illinois, so…nevermind). Long story short, you’re now listening to Rhymin’, the aptly named leaked cut that Youngs has now decided to – thankfully - fully endorse. For all my beat making heads out there, producer Sketch constructs Rhymin by flipping a sample from indie rock group Freshly Ground’s I’d Like, and all my lyrical heads out there would be well advised to keep a sharp eye out for Young’s densely packed, mostly food based metaphors: “See none other, my margarine flow’s nuts, peanut butter” / “I’m on that holy cow, before I play the stakes (steaks), before I eat a rapper, I say amazing grace.” While Rhymin’s associated project the Fountain of Youth II mixtape isn’t due out until 2011, those hungry for more Youngs should look out for his Remote Controlled Revolution LP, coming in May.

Youngs is currently batting 1000% inside the DJBooth. Two for two with on point features. This is fresh.

If I've learned anything over the past two weeks it's that Youngs has a devoted fan base, and rightfully so. The man's one of the more lyrically flexible young emcees out there right now, and with a beat like this, I don't know how anyone could help but nod their head.
By the way, if you want to see some real production skill at work, go listen to the track the sample's from, "I'd Love." Sketch really flipped that ish. Props. |

"... I was too fly so I put Landon in my name..."
"... I'm seasoned veteran; you can bet I blend with the finest herbs and spices..." "... I told Sketch to make it bump so he made the jawn Braille..." Ok... I'm done. |

Man this is the sh*t! That sample is too Ill. Lyrically, Youngs is on top of things or as "SavantRAREBREED" points out "I was TOO fly, so I put Landon in my name" Haha that is AWESOME! [Plays Again]

Once again Youngs blends his amazing lyrical ability with a very smooth beat. Well done to both Youngs and Sketch on this one.

the track is ok but the one thing i'm not liking about it is: he kinda butchered a track that i love "i would like- Freshly Ground" (check out the Original...

I lost my internet for a while, so I had this song and no others queued up for a couple hours. After 10 listens or so, I'm still catching lines. I'm downloading his first mixtape right now. I can't wait to hear it. Google Youngs Fountain of Youth Mixtape to find his myspace.

The production was a little too thin for me. The sample, which is great, took center stage and I would have liked to hear it more embedded in the track. Even that couldn't keep me from giving Normal banger status. His flow was great and his lyricism was on point.
