First-time featuree Youngs may hail from Normal, Illinois, but readers can rest assured that he’s far from Ordinary (915 miles, to be exact). In fact, I’d say that he’s much closer to Brilliant. His mic skills are nothing to scoff at either, as evidenced by this track off his latest EP. On Him & Her, the up-and-comer tells the stories of a fella who turns to crime to provide for his girl and a rebellious trust-fund baby whose fascination with the ‘hood’ lifestyle ultimately lands her in hot water with the law. Well, that’s the short version; with Young’s densely-packed bars and SoulTree‘s bombastic funk-soul samples jostling for listeners’ attention, this record’s difficult to fully digest the first time around, but those who put in the repeat spins necessary to follow the winding narrative will undoubtedly find Him & Her a rewarding listen. If the project’s title is any indication, those who like what they’re hearing can find plenty more lyrically insightful street storytelling on the artist’s Once Upon a Time EP, released January 18 and available now in stores and online.

Can someone tell me what that sample is? I've heard that guitar loop a hundred times but I can't place the song.. But anyway, Youngs flow was on point and his storytelling skills are nice.

I'd be lying if I said my favorite part of this record wasn't the dope soul sample that SoulTree uses, but Youngs does his thing on the mic. I'm not a fan of random Hitler references in my rap music, but dude has some Lupe swag (and a slightly similar cadence - right?).
I'd like to hear more of his material in the future... we'll see what direction he takes on an entire project. |

This is dope! Lovin the oldschool beat and youngs flows nice on this. He kinda reminds me of a mix between lupe and wale.

Stellar exhibition of the hip hop narrative, and a damn near perfect blend of beat & rhymes.

I never thought I'd say this, but I'd like to hear some more harmonica in hip-hop tracks. It works perfectly here, along with the deeply soul production and Young's stellar mic work. Richard was right, I had to give it a few listens to truly appreciate the storyline, but it was worth it. Dopeness.
On a side note, DJKidd may be the harshest reviewer I've ever seen around these parts. Now there's a hard man to please. |

I love this track. I actually shared it on fb from youtube a while ago :)
And truth is, all real leaders of the hip-hop community were under-appreciated since the early 90's... Real heads know the difference between real and fake. And this is real. One |

My ears have a holiday everytime I hear him rap. The way he rides the beat is phenomenal. Landon is def giving the people something that they've never (ever) heard before. Many projects will be coming soon, keep an ear out because he is going to do damage!
