Mike Dreams - Life (It's Like This) ft. K. Sparks
Artist: Mike Dreams
Featuring: K. Sparks
Producer: D Roof
Album: Counting Sheep Series (Week 7)
Label: MUSIC2DREAM2
For most, Mondays are a drag. And Tuesdays? Not so hot either. Here in the Booth, though, we get to start the work week off with new records from two reader favorites, and, with Manic Mondays emcee K. Sparks joining Minneapolis up-and-comer Young Son for the seventh entry in his Counting Sheep Series, this week is shaping up to be one of the best in recent memory. On My Life (It’s Like This), the Minneapolis up-and-comer takes inspiration from his experiences touring Twin Cities schools, youth correctional facilities, and national conferences as part of nonprofit organization youthrive’s “youthrive! LIVE” concert series. Over a jazzy, sampled instrumental by D Roof, he details his dedication to building a better tomorrow. Sparks follows his inspirational opener with some more abstract but equally uplifting rhymes on the back end. Watch for more exclusive records from Young Son each Tuesday leading up to the June release of his sophomore studio album, Dreamer’s Poetry, and stay tuned for the emcee’s Booth-sponsored Counting Sheep mixtape, set to drop June 12th.

I really don't think you can go wrong with a collabo like this. Both came hard. I thought the hook was a bit repetitive but it was overall a good track to get me over the Monday hump.

see in the short time of young son's "counting sheep" versus k. sparks' "manic mondays"
i pick young son, cuz i honestly, STILL have not jumped on the k. sparks bandwagon. he doesnt really impress me. young son has been pretty consistant for me. they both sound good on this song. |

@that1kid13 - No disrespect to your opinion, but how have you not jumped on the K. Sparks bandwagon. The man comes with sick lyrics every single week. I don't think you can get more consistent than that.

@GStan - I agree with your opinion on this track (you pretty much stole what I was gonna say lol). And, while what that1kid13 said about Sparks may seem like nonsense to some of us, it can still be argued that Sparks hasn't been consistent. I personally am a fan of both of them. They both have very distinct, and great, flows. In fact, I love both of their features this week. They both spit about real topics, and they both have blessed the Booth with their presence. We're lucky to have them both on the Booth, and I thank both of them personally for proving that hip-hop is real, and that real people make hip-hop what it is today!!! Kudos to both men!!!

@GStan10 & bowwserr: i cant help it, i dont really knock what u sayin bowwserr but its not even that he hasnt been consistant, ive only liked about 3 out of how many songs has it been? like 30? his songs just dont interest me. i find most of them boring, and even the production couldnt save them for me.

@that1kid13 - I completely understand, fam. There have been some I haven't been the biggest fan of, either. That's going to happen with any artist. What can't be denied, however, is that both men have outstnding talent. The future of worthwhile hip-hop rests in the hands of guys like these two.

There hasn't been a K. Sparks track that I don't like, but I guess that's all opinion. I can't agree more, however, with what bowwserr said about both artists proving that hip-hop is real. The realest lyrics are in the underground artists. I have so much respect for them for that.

I'm wit That1kid too!! I mean k. sparks has good lyrics but his delivery seems the same in every single song and the only song i really like from his was bright lights!!
Young Son came correct though so props to him and look forward to seeing him progress with his counting sheep series!! |

Bedstuy on the check in, Young Son is dope. Both cats came off. I normally don't get into these debates, but seeing that1kid13 has opened himself up to be a victim I'll share my thoughts.
#1 "see in the short time of young son's "counting sheep" versus k. sparks' "manic mondays" i pick young son, cuz i honestly, STILL have not jumped on the k. sparks bandwagon. He doesn't really impress me." Since when did this become a competition? This isn't 50 Cent vs Kanye or Eminem vs Asher Roth. This is two good artist making good music. That's the problem with Hip Hop heads such as that1kid13. Everything must be a competition. Everyone must go head to head (yawn) Everyone must start some form of beef. Both are young black brothers doing something positive, bottom line. 1000 |

The beat is relaxing and both artists come hard. The production fits well for both of these rappers. Young Son and K. Sparks working together...dope collabo!

So, what do you get when you add Monday and Tuesday? Why "Life (It's Like This)", of course!
Way to go "Brooklyn Savage"... settled that debate rather quickly. Amen, brother. |

I LOVE (Pause) both artists on dis track, Veteran lyricists dat can throw it down ... EPIC ... I need more of this... Never in my life i've waited for Mondays & Tuesdays the way i do now ... so i take the Time out & would like to thanks The DOPEST music website i.e. djbooth.net & its CREW for introducin me to such TALENTS ... It is a shame that artist like this don’t get the recognition that it deserves and a lot of other bullshit releases in the music industry get too much unnecessary shine... PEACE. |

Another nice track from young son. Not his best, but its still solid. Beat matches his flow and the lyrics are on point as usual. As for the K. Sparks vs. Young Son, its a toss up. I like em both the same

Thanks everyone for all the great honest feedback on this joint. It wss an honor to get to connect with K. Sparks to make this joint happen.
I also wanted to take a second and say RIP to Dolla as well. Another young brother lost too young, only 21. We just lost another rising hip hop figure up her in my home state named K-Dot of the Street Kingz a few weeks ago. This killing stuff realy gotta cease. WOW...why do you burst in with such ignorance before researching what you are about to say? I mean, I know you're like 17....oh wait....that's no excuse. 17 is like grown...lol
You gotta be smarter than that. Thanks for the honest feedback on the track. That's not what this is about. This is about the fact that if someone says "Rest in Peace" about someone, it might be a good chance there is an actual REASON for it and you should go and Google to find out. Rapper Dolla, born Roderick Anthony Burton II, was shot and killed while waiting in the valet area of the Beverly Center mall in Los Angeles on Monday (May 19). He was 21. May he rest in peace |

I'm in no way hating when I say that none of Young Son's songs have stood out to me, the vocals seemed to always been overwhelmed by the beat...BUT on this track he definitely came through, and as always K Sparks did his thing. Im looking forward to future collabos, keep up the good work guys!

One of the best I've heard thus far from you MH! It probably takes second place for me after the Bus Ride Home. The production is real mellow and chill, and that sample is nice. I love it when the horns come in, and both verses were nice.

That certainly is sad to hear about Dolla. It truly is a shame.
In light of the tragedy, I think that it would be wise if all of us stopped bickering over who's better in the so-called "Y.S. vs. K.S." debte. It's not even a debate, because both have extremely amazing talent. I personlly think that we should instead be realizing the fact that any of us could close our eyes at any moment and never open them again. So let us stop such "debates," if even for a day, just to appreciate the people who have found what makes them happy and what makes them proud to still walk this earth. And we sshould realize that we should all keep doing those things, until our eyes close, or our hearts stop. With that said, thank you, Michael Hannah, not only for rapping, but for sharing it with the Booth. It makes me proud knowing that I have listened to/commented on songs right beside such a talented person, and I will say that to this day, I still look up to people like yourself. Money doesn't make the world go round. Talent doesn't make the world go round. Not even mass popularity makes the world go round. Passion does, ladies and gentlemen. End of story. R.I.P. Dolla |
