Today hasn’t exactly been eventful, as all I did was drink copious amounts of water to recover from my actions during a very happy birthday weekend (22…yeah, getting old). While I was guzzling down my two-liter Smart Water like I’ve been running through the Mojave for a week, I luckily discovered that Young Scolla’s new track Wonderful and my H20 were equally refreshing. Off The Hip Hop Docktrine 3: The Unofficial Boondocks Mixtape, Scolla once again plays wordsmith quite well, touching on the importance of diligence and perseverance in the face of hardship: “But I still follow my dreams, when things ain’t peaches and cream.” While Scolla gets lyrical, producer Tecknowledgy (of the Xtraordinary Gentlemen) drops a light and head-nod inducing beat that moves the track along nicely. The Docktrine is out now, but if you want to catch even more from the recent In the Mix interviewee, be sure to keep it locked here for his DJBooth/RefinedHype-sponsored mixtape Potluck, set to be consumed sometime in June. Stay hydrated, kids.

While ignoring the above admission that one of our writers drank heavily over the weekend - stay away from the booze, kiddies - I couldn't help but press play once again on the stream of this record. Listening twice before commenting on this feature wasn't necessary to come to a conclusion on its excellence, but when you find something that's good its easy to get lost and just enjoy.

Feeling the old school beat. Liking the true lyrics. Nothing about getting money or cars.

Producing this track was so much fun when I made it originally and it was a pleasure to let Scolla rock over it. It was also a pleasure for it to be featured on my man Dub Floyds HHD3....props to Scolla and Floyd!

Yeah I know I said another track was my favorite out of these updates... I lied this is after a couple spins. Classic song that will stick around a few weeks on my ipod. Good old skool beat and straight production overall.

Def. Classic Material... "Potluck" is going to be quite the project. Scolla's material seems to continue to progress with each release. Really an artist to look out for.

Accompanied by some nice and smooth production, Scolla really ended up with a great track. "Wonderful" is exactly how I would describe this track. Hook was enjoyable as were the verses presente by Scolla. Definitely a song that I could listen to on the regular.

This is nice. Scolla got real, and that's what really helps it. The beat was great.

Couldn't think of a better way to start off my day. Thanks to Scolla for providing such a lyrically inspiring track - why are so many rappers afraid to try to uplift?

The production style is one I'm far from tired of hearing, the hook is appropriately soaring, topic may not be exactly new, but Young Scolla is well-versed in serving inspirational piece meant to trigger feel-good emotions.

Great new episodes, great new music, gotta love the boondocks. This is some real feel good music, kinda. Well the beat sounds that way. The lyrics, though harsh and honest, have a positive tone and have an inspirational feel. This just sounds great and there is really nothing bad to say about it.
