Young Scolla - Built for It
Artist: Young Scolla
Producer: SMKA
Album: Young Scolla Meets SMKA
Label: Fab 5 ENT/USR
Thought Booth favorite Young Scolla sounded confident on his last feature, the Lyriciss-assisted On My Way? Well, you ain’t heard nothing yet; on new single Built for It, the freestyle alumnus graduates from self-assured to downright messianic. Fortunately, the record itself seems to back up the artist’s larger-than-life rhetoric. Over the appropriately bombastic, guitar-accented boardwork of 808 Experiment crew SMKA, Scolla makes clear that failure’s not even a possibility, corroborating his claims with some fittingly lofty lyrical imagery: “With the big heart of David on a mission from God, trust me no Goliath will triumph, it’s the legend that I am / If you try and tell me different you simple n*ggas are lyin’.” Though the emcee’s victory is assured, he’s giving fans a chance to help things along by contributing a few bucks to the recording of his and SMKA’s forthcoming street album, the aptly-titled Young Scolla Meets SMKA. Fans can make a pledge toward his $4,000 goal (and check out the creative incentives Scolla’s offering for donation) at the project’s Kickstarter page!

The greatest asset that Scolla has as an artist is his ability to represent for the average, every-day listener. Not to say he is an average artist or human being, but his approach, his tact, and his heart are all qualities with which lots of folks take on their daily grind.
Plus, you can never go wrong with SMKA. |

Good track for the ipod, an enjoyable listen that goes hard without pushing it. The hook is catchy and Scolla def delivered.

There's alot to like about Scolla. Most of all his unique style. He doesn't try to immitate anyone in the industry today and that's gonna take him a long way.

SMKA's name has become synonymous with quality, so it's no surprise that anything they do with the equally high quality Scolla is going to be dope.
I'm still not sure how tall a midget on Paul Bunyan's shoulders is though. Pretty damn tall I guess, but not as tall as a normal size person on Paul Bunyan's shoulders. |
