Young Money - Steady Mobbin'
Artist: Young Money
Featuring: Gucci Mane
Producer: Kane Beatz
Album: We Are Young Money
Label: Young Money Ent/Universal Motown
In an average week, approximately 500 previously-unreleased Lil Wayne records hit the net. Since we at the Booth prefer quality to quantity, we tend to hold off on the bulk of them, only featuring the tracks officially endorsed by either the artist or the producer. In this case, Orlando producer Kane Beatz leaked one of his Weezy collabos—what about the record was burning a hole in their zip drive, you may ask? Just listen and see! On We Be Steady Mobbin’, Mr. Out-of-His-Mind spits some of his most unpredictable verses in recent memory, and fellow “buzz of the South” artist Gucci Mane steps up to the mic midway through with a few (more coherent) bars of his own. Eccentrically creative and at times nonsensical, We Be Steady Mobbin’ fits right in with the rest of Wayne’s leaked discography, and should help hold fans over till The Rebirth hits stores August 18th.

Last night, when we received this record, the person who sent it over accompanied it with the attribute "potential hood classic." While that couldn't be more untrue of this record, the production and rhymes are both on point.
Gucci is tolerable (in moderation) and Wayne is INSANE... but thats why we all love him right? Great look for Kane Beatz, who got his name in the hook! |

Can someone please tell me whats going on with this new Gucci Mane craze? As I look through several other music sites, I can't help but cringe as people define Gucci as "the future" and the "GOAT" (humorously, Plies is the second most common contender for that title. :\) and I was hoping someone could give me some insight to wtf is going on. Am I the only one who believes that Gucci Mane ranks amongst Soulja Boy, Shawty Lo and Ron Browz? Help me out because I'm absolutely lost.
Anyways, this track, hailed by www.hotnewhiphop.com as "VERY HOTTTTT Weezy + Gucci collabo = Str8 BANGERRR!!!!!" is a banger at best and Gucci is BY FAR the least positive aspect of it. In other words, I'd far prefer another Wayne verse. |

@Phantom - I agree with you that Gucci is normally very unimpressive, but I didn't think he did too bad on here (probably the first track I've ever said that on). I don't know what all the hype is about either, though.
Wayne drops some sick metaphors on here (which is expected) and the production gives it a "hood" feel. 3.5 |

@Phantom, i couldn't agree with you more, people say Gucci is the best rapper alive, im like wtf, just like you. he @*#$! sux and is on a little higher that soulja boy status.
anyways, i gave this song a second listen and have come to 3.5 = Banger, just cuz of Weezy, hes been on fire the last week or so (Kobe Bryant, Told Yall, and Im a Go getta) |

I might not be as big as a Wayne fan as i use to be (in 07-08) but i still feel he is better than most people doing it right now ... he is getting tooo comfortable with his lyrics ... & out of 500 songs that leak on the Net in a week, 498 times i keep on repeating - "Wayne should have gone harder on here" ... BUT i cant front whenever he's on his Mr. Out-of-His-Mind act, the sh*t gets to me (too many clever lines to avoid) ... Beat is good & Gucci is kinda tolerable on this more so bcos of the beat & surprisingly he wasnt droning. (WTF i just said) DAMN! u Hip-Hop beats ...

I'm rating this a 5 because I really like the production, and because it is IMO one of the best Lil Wayne songs to come out this year. Gucci is aiight, and I agree with the people above who are discussing his place in the industry. He is definitely overrated, and fits in best with the Soulja Boy and Trey Song crowd.

Agree with this being the best verse Gucci has ever made, though It still wasnt great. The production is average & Weezy is decent enough. I wouldnt put this in my rotation, though its still a decent track

Hah, looks like we're all having a Booth-wide Gucci Mane epiphany!! He did alright on this!!! Honestly, none of us thought we'd say that, and here we are, sayin he did aight on a track. What's the world coming to? Lol.
Weezy, Weezy, Weezy...ahh so many things to say, so little attention span. You caught my ear with this one, though. Actually, you caught both of them!! Love his punchlines. Add that to the first GOOD Gucci verse, and you have yourself a track worth repeating, folks. Let's hope Gucci can keep it up, or, even better, IMPROVE EVEN MORE. |

The Production is tempting a banger status... as for wayne; he's just Wayne, talking about over-talked subjects and you know what i'm talking about. Gucci Mane is a funny rapper which is actually what keeps me listening.

weezy is a genius almost on tha level of tupac..he has transcended his genre and niche..i can expect if lil wayne dies before his time (god forbid) but i bet countless albums will be released with works such as these

I think they said "Hood classic" because these two are the hottest in the hood. All the hood parties these are the two artist that I heard the most. And even though this is just cool, The Hood will bang this like it was the best song ever....

I agree with bowwserr.
I will admit that Weezy is a good MC, but he is no where near the level of Tupac, Nas, Eminem & B.I.G. I dont even consider him in the top 5 rappers alive (which he seems to think he is the greatest alive & so does MTV). The guy is way over-hyped. |

Like the production and like Wayne. His verses were absolutely dope--and I actually thought the use of the auto tune complemented the futuristic, spacey production nicely.
Look, Lil Wayne is more than just creative with his work; he is a PSYCHOTICALLY creative. His metaphors and wordplay are simply ridiculous. Unfortunately, his overdone experiment with the auto tune has gotten to be a bit annoying, and he has been putting out more "quantity than quality" lately. But that said, I can't understand comments like "I don't even consider him in the top 5 rappers alive." Comparing and measuring Wayne to the likes of Nas or Eminem is like comparing Kobe to Shaq, they both are (or will be) legends, but for fundamentally different and unique reasons. Compared to Tupac, Biggie, Nas, and Jay-z, Lil Wayne is simply a different breed of rapper. But he is unique, and his contributions have made a permanent mark on hip-hop. Failing to realize this fact is just plain ignorant. |

BigBlue nailed that shit. Hard! I agree that Wayne is sadly more quantity than quality. But when he delivers that quality it's unlike any other. I'm feeling this record.

Yeah.....I know Weezy prides himself on not writing and on his early records that may have been cool. Now, however, the redundancy of his imagery (@*#$!, money, brains on the pavement) and the asthmatic rhyme style he employs is annoying. To me this record sounded like every other half concocted, illiterate joint weezy has put out and the beat...well its there....maybe Oscar the Grouch can make a home on this steaming pile of a song so that efforts will not have been wasted.

This is some more of that good-ole Weezy hip-hop. The functioning word is good, because a lot of the leaked tracks are not. The hook is catchy, and Wayne does Wayne on the verses. Gucci is OK.

Okay why are we comparing Wayne and 2Pac? I mean really how many hood sensitive tracks has Wayne put out? And how has Wayne changed the face of a genre?
Anyway now that thats out of the way.... Wayne was really spot on with the out-of-this-world-high-on-crack lyrics, I mean damn. Gucci is waste of time, I can't stand him! The production was intresting as well. |
