Young Dro - On Fire
Artist: Young Dro
Producer: Jim Jonsin
Album: P.O.L.O. (Playas Only Live Once)
Label: Grand Hustle/Atlantic
Soon after T.I. began his federal prison sentence, Young Dro publicly stated that he would take it upon himself to carry the Grand Hustle brand on his shoulders during his boss’ absence. Though few would doubt Dro’s ability to take charge, the emcee’s never really channeled his inner Tip on a track—until now. Over Jim Jonsin‘s hard-hitting beat (reminiscent of DJ Toomp and Mannie Fresh‘s early work with the GH head honcho), Dro pushes his powerful flow to the limit, showcasing swag so hot it’s On Fire. Though Dro’s upcoming sophomore album, P.O.L.O. (Playas Only Live Once) has no set release date, On Fire‘s appeal may well be enough to change that—Tip’s probably bumping it in the Forrest City Federal gym as we speak!

An insanely hot production with a slightly mediocre effort turned in by Dro. Jim Jonsin is not playing around these days. He means business.

Jim Jonsin is currently the best producer in hip hop (by a mile).
This track is pretty sweat, mostly because of the production. Dro was decent, though we all know he is capable of much more. I wouldnt be surprised if this got a fair few spins on radio - 3.5 |

The appeal of this joint is not the rappin' abilities of Young Dro but its the radio-friendly production (which is not bad but honestly sounds like his past works) by Jim Jonsin.

Hot production on this one....Jim Jonsin is grinding like hell these days and sounding great. Although lyrically Dro does a pretty decent job, you can't expect him to drop a lyrically heavyweight track to put himself back in the game...he needed some hot radio bangin' production and a head knockin' track...nothing complicated - perfect for mainstream re-exposure. Grand Hustle DO IT! Great summer banger...
PS I don't know why though, I've always been a bit partial to Dro so my review might be a bit biased. I don't know what it is about him, but I pull for Dro nonetheless... |

Whoa this production is on fire! Jim Jonsin doesn't make a beat that's not hot. I'm sorry but this beat is a bit wasted on Dro. He is no T.I. but he is flying the Grand Hustle flag high with this track. This is some of the best that I've heard from him

Wow the consensus is that this is a quality record. I am not sure how I feel about it yet. I'll roll with a 3 until I sort my thoughts out.

Jonsin continues to make bangers, this is another radio ready track that knocks. Dro sounds decent on this, but its a worthy followup to "Take Off". Grand Hustle is definitely runnin things right now, even though T.I.'s gone, Dro and Yung L.A. got their tagteam style. B.o.B. is about to blow up, plus reliable Killer Mike and southern legends 8Ball & MJG, I'm lookin forward to these Grand Hustle releases!

Am I the only one to think that the production of this song is completely similar to that of Whatever You Like by T.I.? I think so. I checked for Whatever You Like and it was produced by Jim Jonsin! I loved that song and I like this one, too. Jin Jonsin is a great producer, he did 2 good songs of Slim Thug and if I'm not wrong he also produced Kiss Me Thru The Phone of Soulja Boy (it's a big success here)! But I must say this one after a while bores me. In rotation!

The production by Jim Jonsin was off the chain and I think Dro has been slept on. His verses are hotter than what people give him credit for.
