They said it couldn’t be done. They thought DJBooth rising star Yonas couldn’t top his previous, highly rated successes like Mindless and In Too Deep. And yet, despite what they said, we have in our headphones perhaps one of the best Yonas tracks to date, It Couldn’t Be Done. Produced by double-first-named beatsmith Sean Ross, who here laces a soulful, propulsive sonic backdrop, Couldn’t Be Done follows Yonas as he lays down the kind of intricate microphone work we’ve come to expect from the Bronx native: “So I die to be unique, never ridin with defeat, never do me like they did Kennedy ridin in his seat.” Or maybe I’m getting carried away? Maybe Couldn’t Be Done isn’t as dope as I think? As always, the rest of the Booth will set me straight soon. While the track will likely be a part of a future Yonas product, he’s keeping the details of said project strictly under wraps. Looks like you’ll just have to keep it locked for further developments.

Yonas has been known around the Booth for his consistency. After all, not many emcees average a '4' or better rating across all of their featured tracks. On his latest feature he does nothing to hurt his average, once again hitting a home run with Sean Ross by his production side.
Dope sample with the head nod factor in play, along with a catchy chorus and solid verses, "It Couldn't Be Done" in fact did it.

man this guy is absolutely amazing, this song is an UNDENIABLE CLASSIC. I haven't heard anything this bangin for months. Ross killed it on the production and Yonas' even one-up'd him on the verses. Can't wait to go buy this cat's album once it drops.

The production on this is hands down the biggest reason as to why this song is as good as it is. Don't get me wrong though, Yonas had a nice flow, but the production really had the biggest impact on me. I like how the mood of the production changes completely as it goes from verse to hook.
Yonas has had some forgettable tracks with me. This however, is definitely not included in that category. Verses were real nice and the hook was just OK. Production is this song's strongest aspect. Looking forward to hearing more. 3.5 |

I believe I called this guy a consistent rapper who will always be a rotation artist. Same goes here for this one too. Sean Ross has a few good productions I am familiar with and Yonas kills it on this beat. Just a smooth solid production.

The production is so smooth, it left me speechless. Yonas is consistent as they come and I have enjoyed his previous mixtape and the other tracks he has put out. His lyrics are on point like always. Banger for sure!

The hook on here is the best part of the track for me. I think Yonas' flow on here sounds a little fumbled though he still maintains his lyrical integrity.

First listen impressions. Hmmm...that soulful sample works really well with that catchy chorus, but damn that piano loop & Yonas' Bars go hard. Best record I've heard from him to date. [Plays Again]

Yonas is one of the best up and coming rappers out there. He flows on the beat hes on unlike a lot of fools out there who rap with the same tempo and flow regardless of the beat behind them. I agree with some of the commenters that mindless, push em back are better.

Yonas is serious and I don't understand how he is unsigned..anybody else because Im perplexed...aside from life's unfair bias against indies, Yonas shows why people need to embrace the non-booty clapping tracks with substance and stop waiting for the next dumbed down lyrists to create a new dance. Yonas lit is on point and rides the production perfectly..Dope Track (as expected)

Consistency is Yonas' game right now. I like In a Daze and Mindless better, but this is dope nonetheless. Yonas has hooks for days and he manages to come with a mainstream sound without being commercial.

Love the joint, though production gets a little less appealing on verses (I understand why, supporting rhymes rather than dominate) but picks up strong again for hook. And Yonas has stepped his bars up since "I Am Us" days. Solid four stars! |
