YFame - Applause
Producer: Stro
Album: Somebody-Ish Nobody
Label: Unsigned
Failing to give a talented up-and-comer the Applause he deserves… for shame, Booth readers! Wait, what was that? Jersey rapper YFame hasn’t actually been featured in the Booth before, and some of you don’t know who he is? Oh. My bad. While demanding praise right off the bat might seem a tad presumptuous, knocking a rapper for being arrogant is like criticizing a fish for swimming too much – plus, in this case, his self-confidence seems to be justified. Backed by the street-ready piano-loop beat (complete with backing “La-la-la”s and Popular Demand-esque brass on the chorus) of Stro, the Booth newcomer lists off all the reasons why we should be showing our appreciation – from the eminently reasonable (“For makin’ my own sound, respectin’ the old and new.”) to the dubious (“For being modest.) to the, uh, seasonally appropriate (“For bein’ what you call a musical Santa Claus.”). So, how about it; think this joint deserves a standing ovation? If your answer’s “Yes,” or if you need further evidence on which to base your decision, you can hear more on Fame’s Somebody-ish Nobody mixtape, out now online.

Love the live instrumentation/big band opening. Kudos to the song's producer, Stro. The verses are solid, not spectacular, but where the song looses its momentum is in the chorus. The "Applause" pause for the clapping is untimely and seemingly only for effect, not purpose. Still, I've heard enough from YFame to want to check for his material in the future.

I really like the begging of the song also. That was probally the best part of the whole song tho. Everything after that kinda went down hill or stayed at the same level. His opening verse was "ehh OK". But then it just got weaker and weaker. He called himself "the hotest one doing it", are you kidding me!? He is far from that. Just saying. I MIGHT be rating this too low according to some ppl. But their opinoin doesnt matter to me. To me, MY opinoin counts. So if you guys have a problem with what i just said, feel free to comment, but it wont effect what i feel.

I think it was great. I never felt it lost anything. It was great from beginning to end, the lyrics had a message.

I f**king love being pleasantly surprised. I've frankly never listened to YFame before, but 20 seconds into this one I was nodding my head like an epeleptic fit. I can't say the verses blew me away, but I won't hesitate to give the man some applause.

The problem with tracks titled such as this is that it can easily be used agaisnt them. For this I wouldn't necesarily give it an applause. It could be worse, this track could be called "standing ovation" which it is most certaintly not.

I like the jazzy/ latin sound to the beat. The producer get a applause. But he is doing nothing but gloryfing himself. But it is ok.
