Be careful of first appearances. White, slim and heavily tattooed, at first glance YelaWolf looks more like a punk rocker than a rapper, but take one listen to his new track I Wish and it’s clear that his hip-hop roots run deep. YelaWolf first appeared on our pages as part Slim Thug‘s I Run, but Wolf’s making his solo debut on DJBooth.net with I Wish, a banging cut produced by Malay that shows Wolf has the wordplay and delivery to hold a mic next to anyone. If that’s not enough to convince you to give him a fair shot; how about a stamp of approval from Wu-Tang legend Raekwon? It’d be naive to say that in hip-hop how you look doesn’t matter, but on DJBooth what matters more is how you sound. I Wish will come off YelaWolf’s currently untitled and unscheduled next release. Stay tuned to DJBooth for more.

Passionate rhymes and nice wordplay aside, anytime Raekwon agrees to do a track feature its clear the main artist has something going...

This was hot. I thought YelaWolf flowed impressively and the lyrics were solid. The chef murked it, hook was a bit weak but this doesn't annoy me at all ... 3.5

Dope record.. verses are hot!!! I been following Wolf for a while and he has a solid fan base in ATL.. After you hear his other material you will get what he was trying to do with the hook for this joint..Its a statement! Keep bangin' em out Yeller!!!

Spin it! Flip it! and Mix it! Yelawolf did his thing, declaring he is hip-hop and my man Raekwon put the stamp of approval on it. This song has a hard core splash served on "the rocks". Drink up.

This was the track that all but forced me to download Trunk Muzik. Both Yela & Rae are superb with the mic on this, though the hook dosnt quite do the verses justice.
