Yashi - If I Had My Way

The younger sister of defensive lineman and future NFL Hall of Fame candidate Simeon Rice, Chi-town native Yashi had originally followed the athletics path as a scholarship track & field star for the Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville Salukis. During her junior year, however, she discovered that music was her true passion and ended up signed to her big bro’s own label, Lucid Dream Entertainment. On new single (and Booth debut) If I Had My Way, she teams up with hitmaking duo Jim Jonsin and Rico Love (The Greatest, Shone, Single Girl) to express her desire for a special man. Yashi’s alto vocals will definitely draw comparisons to certain other soul songstresses (Chrisette, Jazmine, and Melanie come to mind), but Jim & Rico’s beat helps her stand out from the pack. Whether or not she succeeds in hooking that fella, Yashi should have no trouble wooing a classic R&B fanbase. The only question that remains is, can her big bro can pick up distribution as easily as he did sacks on the football field?

From the first note, the production work from Jonsin and Love captured my attention. Serenity defined!
Yashi's vocal layering on the chorus is nicely done. Overall, a wonderful introduction to both the Booth my ears.

Honestly, I was confused whe she began to sing and I heard a male singing in falsetto. The production, especially in the beginning, is creates a great suspenseful mood, and I really love the melody. Something about her voice makes me turn away from this track. I'll give it a 2.5 with the possibility of it growing on me.

Production is the higlight of this record for me!!
It kinda just takes you away to another place it's so relaxing!! Yashi's voice get's kinda annoying after a while but the production more than makes up for it!! Maybe she should of sang in a more smooth tone instead of almost screaming!! |

This is easily the most 4 star ratings I've given in 1 night, holy sh*t. I think Jim J's production had me convinced, but Yashi has a really powerful voice that I think she's teasing with us here for her first entry. Very unique and distinct vocals, love it.

song is ok. I think she has a distinctive voice. but she isn't showcasing it here. but on certain parts she turns me off somehow. she should try sing in deeper pitches, I think it would fit her better. 2.5

Her voice is alil well manish. She looks @reat, and she is on key, but I'm wit most of us on this. Maybe he should have @iven this beat to someone else.

I don't think her voice is so great, but the production is really amazing! Jim Jonsin is one of my fav producers, no doubt. I'll listen to this again but they should have delivered it to another singer
