Apparently finished installing shark tanks into the back of mini-vans, west coast heavyweight Xzibit is once again making hip-hop, and he’s chosen one of the best movies of the year as inspiration for his comeback. Sure his new street single Hurt Locker doesn’t thematically have much to do with The Hurt Locker, a movie about soldiers in Iraq who dismantle bombs, but both the track and the flick share the same heart-pounding, adrenaline-pumping, ass-kicking spirit. Over an aptly cinematic beat by Scoop Deville that incorporates hard-rock influences without going overboard (take notes Lil Wayne), Xzibit drops relentlessly heavy rhymes that take no prisoners: “I’m a man on a mission…It’s that hardcore heavy headbang you’ve been missin.” It’s a little late to earn a spot on the soundtrack, but Hurt Locker the song is more than worthy of sharing a title with The Hurt Locker the movie, and if you’ve seen the movie that’s one hell of a compliment. Xzibit’s currently untitled new album, his first since 2006, is currently set to drop sometime in 2010.

First off, if you haven't seen the movie, go watch it now. Not only is it the best movie made about the Iraq war yet, it's one of the most bad ass movies ever made. Sorry for the detour, but XtotheZ was asking for it with the titled.
Anyway, good to hear the man back. This isn't anything complex, and that's exactly why it works so well. Just a straight ahead banger, the kind of music I could see an athlete playing before a game to get pumped up. Digging it.

I've always been a big Xzibit fan so its great to hear new material!
Funny story... So Nathan S. and I are hanging out at the Playboy Mansion in LA this past summer for an EA Sports event. Xzibit makes his way into the event, but before he does he stops by the red carpet for interviews. He gets to the part of the carpet where DJBooth is ready to ask him great questions and BOOM... he walks right past us. Skip ahead 20 minutes, we are backstage hanging out with Cypress Hill, and X to the Z walks by. Immediately he feels horrible for skipping out on the interview, apologizes, and kicks it with us on camera. True story.

This beat is ridiculous and his flow has not changed a bit!! (which is a good thing IMO) Hurt Locker was an amazing movie so like Nathan already suggested if you haven't already seen it go rent it cuz you won't be disappointed!! Xzibit's pic looks like he's been in a Hurt Locker! This Beat is HARD. I actually wasn't even going to listen to this song, but something made me show Xzibit a bit more respect after all these years. I am happy that I did, because he sounds very good on here. This is a BANGER fo sho!!!

The Beat is a banger. Love the accustics. Lil Wayne should just rap on beats with Rock & Roll aspects instead trying to be something he is not. This is raw Xzibit. I thought he was done. My Bad X.

Xzibit is nice, no doubt about that. His lyrics are well-written and thought out. They create a picture in the listener's min. In my opinion X holds a Bachelor's degree status. But X hasn't really acquired the Master's flow and that's OK cause he still does his thing well. This beat is tight and matches perfectly with his style, but gets boring after awhile. This is a fun song that I will be banging while working out. Good Job!
