Xzibit - H.F.O.U. (Highest Form of Understanding)
Artist: Xzibit
Featuring: Trick Trick
Producer: Xzibit & The Futuristics
Album: MMX
Label: Open Bar Entertainment/EMI
According to the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle, “Teaching is the Highest Form of Understanding.” While it’s hard to say whether Xzibit‘s aim on new single H.F.O.U. was to edify or simply to get a few things off his chest, there’s no question that the man’s dropping knowledge – and those who listen closely enough just might learn something. Backed by an sample of the Beach Boys’ Good Vibrations (co-produced by Xzibit and The Futuristics), the Cali mainstay hits the mic with righteous fury, starting off by describing his first night spent homeless in California and building to a full-on indictment of our society’s callousness toward those in need: “The frequency of tragedy, it happened so rapidly that we became numb, we embrace this insanity.” On the back, Detroit mainstay Trick Trick jumps on board to gruffly tackle the conflict between his Christian faith and the cruelty surrounding him. After hearing him drop a single this aggressive and thought-provoking, can there be any doubt that X to the Z is back in full effect? You tell me – and, if you’re craving more keep it locked for release details on new album MMX.

After not hearing from the man for several years, X has supplied us with 3-4 banger records of the past 7 months. I sincerely hope that they all add up to the eventual release of a cohesive body of work (otherwise known as an album).

First of all, to the spammers who keep posting their crap here... I will not only not visit your site, I will avoid it at all costs because you lack human decency. As for the track, EPIC Beach Boys sample. Mr X to the Z could sing about kittens and give it a certified street sound. Excited for an album drop :)

There's a whole generation who know X more for his tv work than his rhymes, so it's great to hear the man reminding everyone just what a highly respected and heralded emcee he is. This is a monster. And I wouldn't expect Trick Trick on a record like this, but I have to say he comes through nicely. Respect.
p.s. - Sorry about the occasional spam mathu and everyone else. We delete it as soon as possible, but those f**kers are persistent. |

I feel that Xzibit and Trick Trick were made to rap together. This should give the Detroit Gruff Man some much needed exposure.

I like X but this is just okay. The lyrical content is cool but that's about it. The feature guys delivery is more on point than xzibits.

X TO THE Z! Happy to hear from you my friend, good to know you still have a ever stinging lyrical presence behind the mic while still recitin those corny one liners on "pimp my ride"

Amazing. Took off rapping to pimp the hell out of peoples rides, comes back and starts throwing TV screens, fish tanks and chrome onto his tacks (metaphorically of course.)
Looking forward to MMX and more from Mr. X to the Z. |

This is classic work. It's honest this is what is rarely seen in today's music industry. If the rest of the album is similar then I'm buying it.

I miss Xzibit. For me this track just came together, I am biased though to hearing a view of the world around rather than brag rap. Trick Trick blew me away, he and X go really well together. I like the knowledge undertone, that set it apart from any club banger I can think of. Songs like these make you want to understand every word: it makes you care about what the artist's view is. The production could have been a little stronger, that's the only thing that didn't really make it a classic for me.
