XV - Squares
Artist: XV
Producer: Johnny Juliano
Album: Unreleased
Label: Square Bound Music/Warner Bros.
Greetings Booth-Heads, and welcome to the Vizzy Zone. If you haven’t boarded yet, now is the time before the seats are filled and you’re left watching takeoff from the terminal. Your captain today is XV, the Midwest heavy hitter that has most recently been signed to a major label deal at Warner Brothers. The celebratory track for today’s flight is Squares, a brand new record he released just after he signed. The production will be brought to you by the eclectic Johnny Juliano, who sets the pace of the track with a beat that, if you’re familiar with the freestyle series alum, fits this ride perfectly. The Kid With the Green Backpack will continue the flight by hitting high altitudes with his bouncy delivery and original wordplay; “Ain’t it funny how, they jog with they jaws, I call it running mouths.” If you liked this journey to the beginning of XV’s final destination, keep a lookout for the talented emcee to drop out of the sky with more dope hip-hop at your nearest DJBooth terminal.

It was only a matter of time before this man got his shine with a major label deal. Now, if I can only get him to return e-mails on time and turn out requests since becoming a quasi-celeb haha.

Big fan of Juliano's production on this one. XV carried the verses off nicely, but I think the hook could use a bit of improvement. Overall, it's good to see that XV's talent is finally being acknowledged.

This production is great, and fits XV perfectly. XV's verses were pretty good as usual and i liked the hook. A great song. I'm glad to see XV's talent finally recognized by a major label!

His storytelling and lyrical ability won me over a few features ago, and I don't know why I wasn't up on XV sooner. This track is as solid as any, wit great production and lyrics that keep you tuned in. I have a feeling he's gonna reach the big time as a Lupe Fiasco type popular (although he does have his own dope style.)

Liking this one. Hope he won't fall out of Warner like Wiz did. Song is great but don't know if Warner will be the right fit for him.

Wow, we got some bass right here! Love it! Production is powerful and beautifully crafted!
XV's been consistently great with his delivery and lyrics, and doing so in a genuine way! It was about time he got a deal, but more than that, he deserves success. |

XV just continues to impress me...I didn't like this first listen, but now I'm feeling it. And the hook is original. You do only see squares when you're up high!

Great production. I once visited Juliano's Soundclick page and heard this beat. Great addition to hear XV on this. Vizzy doesn't disappoint.

I'd expect a continued rush of new material from Vizzy as he clears out his catalog from songs that WB isn't interested in. Which is to say, if this is a throwaway track, goddamn. As Nino pointed out, the production is a monster, and as always XV's rhymes are on point (props for the Billy Madison reference).

I've heard some great work from Johnny Juliano on Soundclick. I was wondering when/how a producer makes the transition from internet to mainstream. It looks like this is how. Very nice production.
I'm excited to hear more from XV now that he's signed. Best of luck |
