XV - Mirror's Edge
Artist: XV
Producer: Seven
Album: Everybody's Nobody Mixtape
Label: Square Bound Music/Warner Bros.
For most of us, breaking out the Xbox (or Wii, Playstation, Colecovision, etc.) and indulging in a few, uh, wheatgrass shots falls squarely under the heading of “slacking off”—for XV, however, it’s research. Premiered last week on Hot97, the lead single off the Booth favorite’s long, long-awaited Everybody’s Nobody mixtape finds him taking inspiration from bestselling 360 title Mirror’s Edge, relating the hit platformer’s free-running action to his quest for musical superstardom. Frequent production collaborator Seven‘s dreamy synth-piano instrumental is more than a little reminiscent of the spacey, ambient tunes Solar Fields composed for MA‘s score, but Pac-Man Fever this ain’t—the Wichita rapper’s bouncy delivery is in full effect as he once again addresses the pressures of life in the spotlight, and, though his lyrical reflections are a little more diffuse than they were on the mixtape’s title track and the previously-featured Something Better, Mirror’s Edge fits with the project’s overarching theme without sacrificing pop appeal. Everybody’s Nobody has yet to receive a solid release date, but this single has every chance of speeding up the process; in any case, keep it locked to the Booth for further details.

Sublime talent. A unique voice in a cluttered field of wanna-be rappers. Fun, repeat worthy.

Near classic track, Im really looking forward to the debut. I love that crossover production - like a combination of dance and hip hop. This could appeal to a wide audience. Nicely done XV

I think imma take a guess at what @DJZ tryna say - "A unique voice in a cluttered field of wanna-be rappers" = CLEAR DICTION
Very listenable song, if only for the smooth groove of the instrumental XV is rockin over and Vizzy as usual flows effortlessly, making his intricate and complex rhymes seem deceptively simple. |

Aint heard of XV, but I'm feelin' this song. I can relate to it, sure alota people can. Kinda new to the whole booth thing, but this is deff the best place for me to find new music, here in Australia the only american hip-hop released is the POP stuff, pfft. well most of it : p

This record is off the chains!
XV has been doing it big for a good minute now. This is one of the best songs I've heard from him. This is good, eclectic single material. I agree with the others. This is a near classic joint. I want to hear the full version of his other single that debuted on a NBA Finals Promo called "Now Look". |

I'm all smiles. You guys should know by now that Vizzy is my favorite rapper. And song like this prove how different he could be. Listen to simplicity of his flow, very easy right? but the track is still dope!
Also I've found out via his Twitter that "Everybody's Nobody" is dropping July 31th :) |

I don't think I've heard a bad XV track, there is some hot talent without deals out there, why does it take record companies this long to snatch up some of these cats. XV is doin his indy thing getting his independent paper, but he needs his respect from the Big boys in my opinion.

I love XV but this didn't quite do it for me. The beat was missing...something. I feel like the production just needed more cuz it sounded kinda empty to me. With some heavier bass and some claps or snares to make it drive a little more this would have been a banger for sure. Not bad though. 3.5

Mirror's edge is a PS3 game. The lyrics of XV's song explain a bit the concept of the video game.

Is it too much to ask for an album from XV entirely produced by Seven?
XV is one of my favorite rappers right now (thanx to djbooth) in less than 6 months, and Seven should be on every rapper's speed dial! |
