Remember the end of Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, when the camera pans across a giant warehouse and we know the Ark is in one of those thousands of boxes, but we have no idea which one? That’s what XV’s The Kid With the Green Backpack project has become. Recorded with producer Seven, we know that Green Backpack exists, but no one knows when it will see the light of day. Proof of Green Backpack’s existence arrives today in the form of Losing the Signal, a leak off the project featuring largely live instrument production from Seven, smooth vocals from Jupiter One and rhymes from XV that, among other things, reveal his deep admiration for John Mayer; seriously. I have no idea if/when Green Backpack will drop, and apparently neither does XV, but after listening to Losing the Signal I think it’s safe to say the world’s missing out on some dope music. Keep it locked to DJBooth.net for all the latest.

I don't know if I'd say this about every track, but here he sound like Lupe Fiasco to me (though less lyrically dense). Anyone else? Regardless, I've had this track on repeat all day, it's killing me. Just some quality music from a group of quality artists. And you know what? F**k it. I like some John Mayer every so often too. There I said it. Thanks for the inspiration XV.

Sidebar: Nathan, did you just call Lupe Fiasco "lyrically dense"? What is that about?

Anywho, this was mad dope. This album needs to see the light of day. XV is one of the dopest cats out now. This record was certainly ill, eclectic and creative. I also heard some of the Lupe sentiments throughout, but that's not a big deal. That just means that legned begets legend.

Well, ya'll know how much I love this dude's music. If XV keeps making records like this, recognition will ultimately be inevitable or should I say "Undeniable" ....

Michael "Seven" Summers is easily the best beat smith under the radar. Period.

@Z, anyone, please explain me why an album from an indie label can't be released?!? WTF? He should just be at Konvict/Geffen/Interscope then... I don't get it.

Production is AMAZING!!! It has such an uplifting vibe. Some tunes sound like a RHCP (rhythm after chorus, 2nd verse) or U2 (chorus, guitar) track. Seven, hands down, you're above 98% producers in the game.

XV is just incredibly talented, smart and expressive. He knows how to use his gift! Highly enjoyable listen.

Ah, my new ringtone. Unfortunately, it will never ring because I have zero bars (where I work).

The song sounds really good and I agree, the vocals from Jupiter One were really "smooth" and just overall pleasant. The circumstance looming for The Kid With the Green Backpack is unfortunate (haha that nigg@'s about to be stuffed into a locker).

Mirror's Edge, Benjamin Button, To Do List and now this. XV continuously puts out dope music. Keep it up, he is one of my favorite artists now.

Cool beat, ok lyrics, slightly annoying and played out hook(sounds like a cheap coldplay knockoff).

I wouldn't have picked this for a single, but its still a tight track. XV has personality in his lyrics and a fresh sound that doesn't get boring. I can listen through any of his mixtapes without skipping any tracks. Great chemistry with his solid production team. Overall my fav emcee of 2009.

I guess I should be on American Idol cause may be a lil harsh, but I could def hear this in a movie, but I wouldnt call it a hit record....I understand why there is no label interested. Rapping is good, nice story, but "Is it what the people want to hear!?!" .OK.

This is a true crossover record. If he aimed to put this on television shows/movies, it would peek people's interest to find out who he is. Dope record all around.

How can Royalty City (label) not see all the comments that XV has been garnering, and realize they need to get this out there.
I have to agree with FredRico on his comments, someone needs to do something... it is a shame every single day that it sits idle and only people with connects (Z) can listen but not fans.
