XV - Lift the Game

Most artists put out a few songs in between albums to let everyone know that they still “got it” and maintain their place in the spotlight (“Hey! You guys! It’s me! Remember?”). Booth favorite XV isn’t most artists. Vizzy’s somehow managed to drop an entire mixtape for his fans while they wait for his debut album (much appreciated). The first leak from the project is Lift the Game, a track that does exactly what the title implies by banging out an insanely energetic freestyle over Hit-Boy & Chase N. Cache’s epic Drop the World beat. Here the Wichitonian emcee keeps Lil Wayne’s slower rhyme pattern from the original but makes the beat completely his own through another round of the trademark wordplay that made him the success he is today: “Rocket packs are fully charged/ the moon and stars that will be ours/ home is where you find your heart/ and at this point I’m up on Mars.” No need to ask if you liked this one, just be sure to check XV’s 30 Minute Layover Mixtape, due out Friday.

When i first heard the drop the world beat i was a bit hesitant on it but since listening to the song a few more times i think the beat is heat XV just added class to it.

i killed this harder though haha sorry...but this ain't bad but, i hold e's verse down this doesn't match up to the orginal sorry...and im a semi-fan of him...but this din change my mind about the orginal this just din capture me like waynes did...mix it in with the orginal and put it in...med rotation

This was the best song off the Rebirth but XV just outshined Wayne with much deepper and well actual rhymes. Damn even the hook is better and the 3rd verese was crazy.

This is the angriest I've ever heard Vizzy, and I have to say I'm impressed. He can really bring the heat when he has to.

mm...xv should have implemented his own style into the first part of the song and the chorus...weezy can capture the feelin of the song in the chorus better...im sure xv could have done a complete chorus by himself with his own kinda of feelin to it and it woulda sounded like a hit...but he gave me an idea

the hook is amazing lyrically- he almost adopts waybe's flow but like 10 times harder! the beat just matches him perfectly. if he couldve had the eminem verse on here it would be classic, still a banger though!

I love me some XV. My favorite from him is still Benjamin Button (still listening to it regularly) but this is excellent. This beat is epic anyway, and like DJ Freestyle said, the original was fire. This is a completely different vibe from the original, which shows that XV did his job, especially considering the unique qualities the beat holds.

ive been listenin to this guy a lot lately, hes got some real good sh1t. He shoulda sped up his verse on Em's original part (like Em did), but w/e the 3rd verse was the best in my opinion, which brought this up to a 3.5

best cut off his 30 minute layover mixtape, along with nothing on you in my opinion. This song gets a 3.5 but I was a bit dissapointed with the mixtape, then again its only a mixtape.

Love what Vizzy was spitting on this. A beat this sick needs dope rappers only. It took me a few listens to start liking the original, but now I love it. If I would've heard this version first, I'm sure I would've instantly loved it. BANGER! XV does it again.. and again.. and AGAIN!

As for the track it needs to be said that I don't think this killed Wayne's verson it's much too different. They both have their places XV's version is great but having come after Lil' Wayne's I don't think it could quite top it. It needed just one more element. Please refer to your periodic table -- EM. |

Originally i was only going to give this song a 3.5/4 but after putting this song into rotation and listening to the lyrics XV was spitting, the song grew on me. Lyrically this song is deep and I applaud XV for taking on the challenge of making the song his own. In my opinion, I think his was better than the original!
