Last week, we featured Kansas emcee XV and his new song, High Five; one of the first releases from his creative, new series entitled 40 Days, 40 Nights. To kick off week number two of two-a-day online-only exclusive tracks, the former Squaria resident has hooked up with Staten Island rapper AC for A Girl Named Destiny. Over some classic production from 9th Wonder, punctuated by the sampling of a powerful female voice drowning in the background, both two-lettered artists wax poetic about an evil vixen who helped them each get to where they are today. Clearly, their date with destiny means a feature inside our DJBooth, but by the sound of things, their ultimate fate has yet to be determined. A few more joints like this one, however, won’t hurt.
im kinda get-n sick of thiz dude. yeah i am....i keep x-pect-n a gud track from him but he neva seemz 2 make one. yeah i dont lyk n-e-thing about thiz song. beat=0, lyricz=dont care.
Oh you simple minded people that can't HEAR the true lyrics behind the song...he, along with talking about destiny, connects to hurricane katrina in his first verse...and because he stood up destiny, it saved him from katrina...
this is from XV himself:
TODAY…I dropped, “A Girl Named Destiny” featuring AC. I talk about a girl we all know named, Destiny, but I stand her up. And it saves my life.\
—————————————————————————
I met this girl named Destiny.
I knew that she would be the death of me.
Too pretty for her own good,
You prolly seen her out in yo’ hood.
But she caught me, called me, on August 23rd,
3 years ago, but I still remember her words.
She said come down south, right now I’m in Alabama.
But in a few of days I’m a be in Louisiana.
I’m just chillin’ out with my Grandma, I miss you though,
and your Midwest stammar, so hit the road.
No, baby, I gotta finish some beats.
Besides, I thought we was goin’ to Texas in a week.
She said if you don’t come we prolly will never meet.
And if you stand me up we prolly will never speak.
I heard her homegirl Katrina came to look her up.
I had a date with destiny, I’m glad I stood her up.
————————————————————————————
So, “destiny” is calling me to come meet her in Louisiana. I stand her up. And Katrina comes. Mind boggling. Get ready for a CRAZY record tonight.
9th snapped on this production! I already knew from the intro that it was going to be a smash. That sample is ill. I felt he could have used some hard kicks and a cleaner snare that snapped back with a slight reverb. That would have set this track off perfectly. DANG Jaydee. Your further description of this joint's underlying topic is mad crazy! That just makes the track so much better! XuUP17, you better take that back. The first verse was ABSOLUTELY something special! That's awesome!
after reading jaydee08's comment it raised my rating a star because i dont think i wuld have understood what the underlining meaning was. i didnt really like AC's part but.. i still like this. it is chill.
Mmmm it's not my type of song, I guess the best part of it are the lyrics...which I don't understand so I won't rate! Anyway I was catched by the title, it must be a deep song
XV comes correct again. For all those who doubt his prowess as an emcee you need to look no further than his "The Square In the Circle". His lyrics are in depth and meaningful but not to the point where they are "too complex" for some to understand.
DAMN!!!! ARE PEOPLE THAT SIMPLE MINDED AUGUST 23RD=HURICANE KATRINAGIRL NAMED DESTINY=KNEW SHED BE THE DEATH OF ME =HURRICANE KILLED MANY PEOPLE-IN ALABAMA IN A FEW DAYS ILL BE LUOISINANA BE IN TEXAS IN A WEEK
PattyPatty85, read Jaydee's description...you'll understand the lyrics a lot better! DJ XLR8, Jaydee already explained all of that, way more detailed above.
This song is sick, XV has proven me wrong since the 1st time i heard him, lyrics are very deep and thought provoking (well for me anyway) and 9th Wonders production is good as well
