XV - Boss Level
Artist: XV
Producer: Skrillex
Album: Unreleased
Label: Square Bound Music/Warner Bros.
Fresh off scoring rave reviews for appropriately-titled EP title track Awesome just this Monday, Booth fave XV returns to our pages with another fresh release. On Boss Level, the reader fave indulges his well-known affection for electonic gaming, lacing dubstep heavyweight Skrillex’ grinding production with references to Bowser, Sephiroth and other iconic villains. This joint is as-yet unattached to any forthcoming project, but Boothgoers will be the first to know if an when that changes.

Chrono Trigger on the cover brought back memories. Production is a little bit too crazy for me though.

yeah, i usually gravitate towards ridiculous production but this just doesn't really work...XV remains one of my fave Booth artists though

The beat was hot up until it switched to the craziness... XV has a pretty good flow. Gotta give them some props for this. This would go hard on the radio. 3 out of 5...

Been hearing a lot of rappers drop bars over 'Scary Monsters & Nice Sprites'. I love rap and I love dubstep, but I don't think they work together; too much going on together, and the constant bass drops and Transformer-fornication noises tend to drown out the lyrics, especially if the rhymes are solid. You don't tend to notice it as much as you would over the electronic breakbeats XV usually flows over.
