2011, I can already feel it. This is going to be a year of great mixtapes, better albums (De-tox, De-tox!), and probably very little Soulja Boy (go ahead and say that out loud, it feels great). Leading off the New Year is an artist with serious makings of breaking through in the next 365 and beyond, XV. 2015, his latest record, is a promise of great things to come with his staple flow and creative lyrics. Backed by constant-collaborator Seven, the Kansas emcee rides a fast-paced beat to drop some futuristic content that matches both the year Marty McFly first traveled to the future, and the year the man from Squaria will finally be considered part of hip-hop’s elite (hopefully). I seriously doubt that we’ll have to wait that long for XV to come into the limelight, but until then we can have the great pleasure of listening to some dope music from the man. While there is no project attached to this record, be sure to keep it locked in to your local DJBooth for more soothsaying and lyrical bomb spraying from inside the Vizzy Zone.

XV is in the top 5 rappers who havent dropped a debut in my opinion. Another good song by him, bounce back from A Night To Remember

This track gave me mixed feelings. It's not banger status, but showcases what XV can do. All in all, it's a good mixtape track that wets hip-hop fiends taste buds for what XV is capable of in the future.

The Booth got me on XV like YEARS ago, and I've been spreading his movement since. Checked him out several times on Mike Posners summer tour and couldn't be more excited about his future work with a major label release. The dude deserves everything coming to him, and this track is just a small sample of what you can expect.

Fun, creative, full of life; that is XV across the board - not just on this "2015" record. I'm not sure what 2011 will look like for the emcee, but I hope its nothing but positive.

As both a big XV and Back to the Future fan I was hoping for at least one more BTF reference (besides the flux capacitor). And there, I'm done with my nitpicking. Once again XV delivers a must listen track - can he flip that sound into widespread success? We'll find out this year.

Ok well this is my first time hearing from XV, and im not really sure about him yet. Im not really feelling this from him. He seems to have a lot of potentional. He has a catchy style to him, and i like that. The production in this isnt that great from Seven.

I think I just expect too much from XV since he came out with 'Mirror's Edge' and 'Me, You'.
I can't really pick faults at it, but I can't really find anything that stands out either. After listening second time through I liked it a lot more but like I said, I just expect too much from XV. 3.5 stars |
