The 153rd entry in our DJBooth.net Freestyle Series comes courtesy of XO, the DMV rapper and Diamond District (XO, Oddisee, YU) member last heard on Raheem Devaughn collabo Take Home. On his brand new, exclusive Play That Game freestyle, the Studio43 emcee flows over original boardwork by AB The Producer. XO is currently preparing for the April kickoff of Diamond District’s US tour. Fans can also catch him at URB.com‘s “South By South Next” event during this month’s SXSW festival, and Grand Hustle‘s “Leaders of the New Cool” in Atlanta.

Readers can download a copy of the newly-released In the Booth (Volume 4), featuring exclusive freestyles 91 through 120, here! Volumes one, two and three are available for download here, here and here.

I love the beat, but as far as his flow goes it's not too bad

The other day someone asked if the Booth was operating out of a locale in the DMV region, based on the fact we show lots of love to artists from DC/Marlyland/Virginia. To answer that question, no we are not based in the DMV... but you don't have to be in order to recognize talented artists. One of which is XO.

Diamond District caught my ear a long time ago and XO's flow and wordplay have always impressed. Glad he hooked up with AB for entry #153!

To briefly touch on Z's point above, the truth is that no region is currently hustling as hard as the DMV. I get hit with more new music from the DMV than any other region, no question, and most of it's pretty damn good, including XO.

If you know Diamond District you know they've got an experimental streak, and XO's freestyle here is a great balance of street and concept. Dope.

A bit forced rhyme schemes to try to match the rhythm of the beat, but the end result is definitely Rotation-worth!

This sounds more like a FEATURE than a freestyle?
