In today’s hip-hip industry, skill on the mic does not necessarily translate into success. While what you can do certainly factors into the makings of a career, who you are is equally important. 50 Cent wouldn’t be half the star he is today if he hadn’t been shot nine times, and, in the same vein, Akon’s career never would have taken off if he hadn’t lied about going to prison. XL’s new single, Credibility, is about achieving the badass reputation that all rappers long for. The Boston emcee doesn’t disclose the past experiences that have made him so hard, but his gruff voice and his blistering lyrics certainly make him sound credible. Producer Shuko throws some sonorous horns into the mix, while guest Sean Price contributes a no-nonsense verse. Credibility will appear on XL’s upcoming album, Beast Coast.
This is some east coast forreal. Now, I will say real hip hop is what I ask for over wack rap, but I'm not really feeling this. This won't really move people. Bump credibility. It's about marketing. If America was based on honesty, we wouldn't even be America.
Plus, nearly three and half minutes of hardcore aggressive and loud violent punchlines has been done just as much as a Crank Dat or We Fresh type joint.
Everybody look at the homepage of DJBooth and compare XL's picture to DJ Green Lanterns picture over by the "Interviews" collumn. Tell me that they dont look identical....haha.
Haha, cb126405. Trust me, they don't look identical. I could why you're saying that, but XL is well.... XL. This song goes hard, true East Coast feel. I agree with Muzzie, who agreed with BDF, who agreed with MH... BUT... I think its good enough to stick in rotation. Especially with that Sean Price guest nod.
Listen, I don't know how th hell a song like this is boring? I mean the only sense that makes to me is that people have lost the sense of what real hip hop is, or people are artist that ar not this good. Sean P is dope period and the beat is Nuts!! This is classic underground east coast hip hop! This kid XL is really nice!! He is from the Kreators and is much better. I used o really like the Kreators but they fell off. His flows are ill, I venture to say new as well. The problem I see is that this type of music is for underground hip hop heads. It is really hot in that arena. It is def. not a shake your ass club joint. But this is the kind music you ride to with your people and smoke a L to.. Hip hop is still going. Good Track
Straight East Coast feelin, the delivery goes with the hard beat and you gotta love the scratches (put KRS-ONE on the remix!). OhSoHipHop, gonna have to agree with you, this type of talent is becoming rare and it's always a pleasure to see artists tryin to keep the old skool underground hip hop alive.
This @*#$! will clear the dancefloor on a friday!! But god damn it is stupid hard. Intense, new sounding. Sean P is always good, XL IS from the Kreators. Dope, killed it, i heard Primo playing this on Headquarterz Sat on Sirius. DOPE
