Kid CuDi - Brake
Producer: Dot Da Genius
Album: Untitled (TBD)
Label: G.O.O.D./Universal Motown
Since Perfect Is the Word hit our homepage back in June, Kid CuDi and Dot Da Genius have been quiet regarding their forthcoming “experimental rock” side-project, WZRD. No need to worry, thought - now that the twosome have taken their collective foot (Yeah, I have no idea what that would look like, either) off the Brake with the release of the lead single, it’s full-speed-ahead to the project’s arrival, with (we can only hope) no pit stops. Like its predecessor, this jam finds Dot blending trippy rock instrumentation (dig the sludgy guitar sound!) with plodding percussion as CuDi intones cryptically introspective lyrics. This time around, however, the mood is a tad more upbeat, with the Baltimore representative emphasizing his determination to soldier on despite whatever obstacles fate may throw in his path. (Side note: am I hearing things, or has CuDi’s singing voice gotten stronger since last we heard him?). If this cut leaves you craving more be WZRD’s patented stoner-pop-hip-hop-rock amalgam, you can keep it locked to the Booth for further tunes leading up to the release of their untitled debut set in early January.

This is not my kind of Cudi, but his die-hards will still love it and I am sure he will gain a few crossover fans in the process.

Cudi isn't from Baltimore... he's from Cleveland. Haha. Besides that, great review. I feel I need a bit more context of the entire project to make an informed opinion on whether I'll listen to WZRD on a consistent basis like the first two MOTM's, however, I do think this song is a really good effort from both Cudi and Dot.
