Over the years, Wyclef Jean has been an artist who has taken on many roles: rapper, political activist, philanthropist. For his new mixtape DJ Drama Presents Wyclef Jean Toussaint St. Jean From the Hut, to the Projects, to the Mansion., he dons yet another role: Haitian revolutionary. Taking on the character of “Toussaint,” Wyclef emerges with an emotional album, exemplified by the new single Suicide Love featuring Eve. Produced by Wyclef and longtime music partner Jerry “Wonda” Duplessis, the track starts off with a futuristic, synthetic piano sound that smoothly transitions into the first verse. Wyclef has an emotional tone in his flow, and his lyrics reflect that feeling with lines like “I got suicide love for you…I would die for you.” Eve, who made a name for herself by acting like a tough girl, shows a more sensitive side, describing her ideas on love with a great film reference when she rhymes: “Alabama, I’m your True Romance.” Wyclef’s new mixtape is set to drop off Carnival House/MegaForce/RED/SonyMusic on Nov. 10. Keep it locked to DJBooth.net for all the latest.

When most artists tell you a story, its hard to hear the passion in their vocals. Wyclef, however, isn't most artists. This is a taste of the unqiue storytelling that plays out on his new project.
I'm impressed. Not to mention - where did Eve come from? |

Wow is was really impressed with this. Wyclef always impresses me. You can definitely hear the passion in his voice. And Eve sounded really good on this. I didn't know what to expect from this collabo but I am left very impressed.

Yeah I agree with Z and GStan. The song is real heartfelt from its lyrics, hook, and an incredible beat.
And where did Eve come from? That's so random since she's not that hot or has a type of friendship with Wyclef to appear outta-no-where on his songs. But who cares, she really held her own. |

Production here is top notch, Wyclef knows exactly what hes doing on every record he produces, however something here doesn't click, the pieces are there, they're just not put together fully yet, I want to say it might be the guest feature or the lyrics, I can't really pin it though.

First off, props to Wyclef for getting Eve on the track, she's been MIA for a minute. More importantly, with all his other work I sometimes forget just how taleneted of a musician Clef really is, and tracks like this remind just how well he can lay it down when inspired.

Damn! quite a mixed reaction for this production. I will agree if someone says its just too synth-heavy but I'm still liking it. Lyrically, Wyclef always bring good stuff. And it was good to hear Eve came out of nowhere and raising the replay-value of the song. Solid mixtape track.
Would it be wrong if I call this a more mature sounding Sean Kingston's "I'm At War" ??? |

I'm not a sucker for female rappers in general but this time Eve killed it. The production is amazing, and them two do the rest! Banger!

How do you @*#$! up a song? 101: Step 1 Allow more than two people (with their own respective subjective ears) dictate the direction of a beat.
Three songs in one equates to garbage. I like Eve though (Double R!!!). |

Loving the lyrics and the vibe he's sending... but hating the same ol' Sean-Kingston-sounding style. It's reggae-gone-HipHop status. Not diggin' it so much as I did when Rihanna and Sean Paul brought it out 5 or so years ago.

it ok. it grows on you, thats fur shur. definitely fits in with the emo rap that's surfacing these days. I'm not excessively pleased with the hooks though. hooks take away from the seriousness of it, But i suppose that's a good thing otherwise no one would listen to it.
