As someone who’s contributed to the creation of a seminal hip-hop album, hooked up with Lauryn Hill and even run for President of Haiti, you might expect Wyclef Jean to be immune to the existential angst and erratic behavior that often hits during middle age. On his recent 43rd birthday, however, the Fugees alum raised eyebrows by posting a now-infamous pic of himself, oiled up and clad in a Speedo, standing astride a red, white and blue Ducati motorcycle. On Midlife Crisis, the latest song release off his Refugee La Republique/All Handz On Deck debut project, the industry vet tackles the issue head-on. Sedeck Jean, Prince Q and DJ Bliss’ sampled chants back ‘clef as he makes clear that there’s not one iota of shame in his game—with the sh*t he’s accomplished, and the obstacles he’s surmounted in his life, he deserves to pose for the occasional narcissistic self-portrait. Featuring guest appearances from 2 Chainz, T.I., Waka Flocka, Uncle Murda and Trae The Truth, the April Showers mixtape has yet to receive a drop date. Fans can, of course, keep it locked for all the latest on the forthcoming set.
