Fresh off the release of his Bridging the Gap LP with Chubb Rock (available now online), Wordsmith is ready for a little “me time.”  That’s not to say he’s going on hiatus—far from it!  As the Baltimore rapper demonstrates on the first leak off his forthcoming Overdue & Underrated mixtape, he doesn’t need to step down from the mic to indulge himself.  Requesting that listeners refer to him as “Wordsmith The Great,” the rapper proceeds to run down his long list of admirable qualities: he’s smooth, he’s soulful, he can hop genre boundaries with greatest of ease, he can even “blind you with [his] aura!” With the help of a few jazzy samples, Street Level delivers a fittingly swanky instrumental backing to Word’s chilled-out braggadocio—the end result is a sunny cut guaranteed to leave old-school listeners smiling.  Wordsmith’s underground jams have always met a warm reception in the Booth, and this track should be no exception.  Here’s hoping Word’s latest mixtape (due out this fall) proves its title wrong, earning the rapper some long-Overdue attention and acclaim from heads across the nation.  Next month, watch for Wordsmith to jump “In the Mix” for a Booth-exclusive interview!

This is the definition of a HEADBOBBER. You can't not feel the flow here and rock your head up and down melodically. The production is ill and the chorus is real real catchy (I found myself singing along by the second listen).

Banger.

Let this play. Wordsmith mixed with the brotha in the background sample is just too soulful to be talking through. I don't like the hook breakdown it takes away from the mood and the soul bring it back...

Wow. Awesome! Lyricism is sick. Production is off the chain! Definitely a keeper.
