Wordsmith - Hook Up Hotline
Artist: Wordsmith
Producer: Strada
Album: Vintage Experience
Label: Nu Revolution Ent. LLC.
Though online dating sites are growing in popularity with every passing day, underground mainstay Wordsmith prefers to keep things a little more old-school. On the latest leak off his forthcoming freshman album, the Baltimore up-and-comer lets listeners know that, if they’re looking for a good time, they need only place a call to his Hook up Hotline and he’ll fix them up with someone suitably freaky – females can even get “a little bump ‘n’ grind” from Word himself, if they so desire. A hedonistic, retro-informed jam like this one is nothing without an appropriately swanky beat, and producer Strada serves up a certifiable scorcher, backing the emcee’s sales pitch with a bouncy blend of glossy synths and electronic handclaps. Wordsmith’s Vintage Experience isn’t set to drop till March 30, but those who like what they’re hearing can click here to check out the Seannie Cameras-directed music video, featuring Durkl Clothing‘s official Hook-Up Hotline jacket (Seriously, the song has an official jacket – how cool is that?).

Not bad; I don't care for the hook, but the verses are pretty solid. It's repetitive to the point where it can get stuck in your head, but I can't decide whether that's a good or bad thing.

I've never been a big fan of emcees trying to do their own verses AND hook (50's pretty good, but for the most part rappers are not), but Wordsmith does okay here. The concept brought a smile to my face and the delivery is consistent with every past feature we've run with Word. The standout here - the upbeat, fun production work of Strada.

That hook was catchy as hell and the verses and production were also solid. I liked this a lot. 3.5, but I'm feelin a round-up.

A bit of a different sound for Wordsmith, but radio's already picking it up, so mission accomplished. Not my favorite track from him, but I can respect it.
@DJZ "50's pretty good [at doing the verse and the hook]." Um, what? His hooks are routinely terrible, especially when he does that weird English accent thing. Not one of your best calls. |

It’s much more accessible than anything else Wordsmith has released so far. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that, but the jam is just average. Won't stay in the rotation for a long period of time.

I really didn't enjoy it. As stated, too generic. He also sounds annoying, and his lyrics are pretty lame too.
