This summer, underground favorite Wordsmith and veteran emcee Chubb Rock plan on Bridging the Gap between hip-hop’s old and new schools. For those who can’t wait, though, Word’s also provided a little something to enjoy in the meantime: the A Crack In the Bridge mixtape, composed of promo records not available on the album proper. On Music for the Milennium, a newly-released cut off the street album, Word teams up with Soulstice (of Wade Waters fame) to deliver some spaced-out meditations on how they’ll bring music into the year 3000 and beyond—now that’s planning ahead! Barring some big-time advances in cryogenic technology, it’s doubtful any of us will live that long (heck, by that point the human race might not even be around), but the innovation-celebrating sentiment, as well as Capish‘s blindingly-glossy synth backdrop, make this an easy record to get behind. A Crack in the Bridge just dropped today, and is available for free download online.

My speakers were just on fire. Luckily, I extinguished them after the record was over.

I am feeling the production on here. These dudes rock smooth on here. Nothing really standout though. Kinda like a feel-good rap joint...It's Aight...

Def some feel good muzik, but a lil too synthy for me. Not feelin it when everything is thrown in all at once. The track is aight, nothin too special.

I thought this track was really well done. The upbeat production was ill. Wasn't really a fan of the talking in the background, thought it was too much and took away from the flow and beat at the beginning and middle of the song. Wish there was another verse in there too, kind of short.

I think the production is cool, great beat and great music, but their flows are so and so...they sound a lil boring and not too suitable for this type of music! in rotation

The production is interesting and has that future technology vibe. Wordsmith always brings some hot lyrics and the synths on here are dope. This is a solid listen

a little too much synths, and the chorus was way too hollow 4 me. but overall, this is a feel good song and it made me feel good so... in rotation
