Wise - I Don't Believe You [Premiere]
Artist: Wise
Producer: D.Focis
Album: D.Focis Presents: WFAC Facemusic Radio
Label: Unsigned
First Wizdom, and now Wise – I’m beginning to think that Facemusic may be the smartest indie in the whole hip-hop game. As evidenced by I Don’t Believe You (another Booth-exclusive world premiere!), however, even the most intellectually gifted fellas (and ladies, for that matter) can say and do some incredibly boneheaded things when love and lust come into the picture – like, say, cheating on your main squeeze, not coming up with an airtight alibi and calling your girl by the wrong name. Fortunately, this first-time featuree’s mic skills are much sharper than his powers of persuasion. Backed by emcee/producer D. Focis’ characteristically spacey, head-noddable production, the Northeastern up-and-comer does his damndest to smooth things over in engaging, conversational verses – but despite his best efforts, the woman in question (played by R&B singer Mykel) refuses to be won over. Has this music put a smile on your face? Well, there will be plenty more where this came from on the DJBooth.net-sponsored D.Focis Presents: WFAC Facemusic Radio, set to hit our front page June 3.

Welcome to the Booth, Wise. Thanks to some spacey production - I can hear Common over this beat - and a real solid chorus from Mykel, I came away impressed after listening to this record. Wise's delivery could be a bit sharper at moments, and the the vocals are not as crisp as I like (me being picky), but the end result is certainly pleasing.

I never thought I'd hear the phrase "acting emo" on a hip-hop track, but I can't really complain - it gets the point across.
This is mellow to the point where it may find its way out of your short-term memory unless you have a firm grip on it; very enjoyable otherwise. |

This was smooth, to say the least. Concept wasn't exactly to my liking, but the overall smooth vibe this track exerts is hard to ignore. I like Wise's storytelling skills and overall I'm not gonna hate, this was pretty cool. Hook was the only part that left me wanting to x out of the song, but I'll let it slide because of the beat and Wise's flow.

Always welcome spacey songs in my playlist. This one will get a few plays though, vocals are lacking and reaches a point where I wanna grab the hook and delete it. Just a rotation song.

FACEMUSIC RADIO!!!!!!!!! This project is crazy top to bottom, at least what I've heard so far. D. Focis don't serve up the entire dish, even to us FaceMusic artists. My honest opinion, impartial and all, the beat is crazy, hook crazy, concept crazy. I personally would have done more with the sixteens but Wise gets his point across pretty well and paints an excellent picture of infidelity and its consequences.

It took me a minute to get into this, but once I did I was vibing out. Wise isn't afraid to let his vocals stand out over a minimal beat, and it was a godo choice. The man's got some serious storytelling skills.

Not really feeling this one. The beat is too boring. Wise's sounds boring on this. Boring track.

I think every guy can relate this record. Pretty clever wordplay on the subject matter, and the chorus is on the catchy side.

And whilst Wise has captured the thoughtful relationship arcs well with lyrics, it just lacks some edge to make it really have an impact – the flow need some more conviction and a beefier production wouldn’t go amiss either! 2.5
