Unless you’re Diddy’s son – was two cars for his 16th birthday really necessary? - all of us have had to take crappy jobs in order to keep the lights on while we chase our dreams, and new found DJBooth favorite Whitefolkz (see previous hit The Waiting Line) is here to deliver a new 9-to-5er anthem with his aptly titled mixtape track J.O.B. Produced by cinematicly named boardsmith DJ Soundtrax, who’s also on his grind with a soul-banger hybrid beat (can anyone name that sample?), J.O.B. follows Folkz and K-Beta, whose Inglorious Beta album I’m still bumping, as they take turns expounding on the perils of employment with lines that are simultaneously obscene and literary: “Keep holdin on Holden Caulfield, Catcher in the Rye feelin’ like I got a raw deal, I’m in the optical shop making these eyeglasses, fumes in the air burn the tips of my eyelashes.” If you’re looking for something to play in your iPod while you kill time at your crappy job, might I recommend Whitefolkz most recent mixtape, AlphaDogg, available now.

If you've read my feedback on records we feature at the Booth over the years, you'll probably know that I am a big fan of "everyday people" music. There is a place for "ballin," "pimpin," and "acting fly" music no doubt, but 95% of all music consumers deep down cannot relate to what the artist is saying in those forms of rap.
Thus, we need artists like Whitefolkz (and K-Beta) to fill this void. Dope dope record. I look forward to hearing more from DJ Soundtrax. |

This is today's society music for the working man. I'm sure many can relate to this song. I agree with Z in that we listen to "money cars clothes" but the majority have never seen that. If you want to relate to the song this is the song for you. Really great song possibly my favorite out of this update.

The life of the everyday working man can be rough and it's nice to see that Whitefolkz understands this. Relating to alot of rap tracks out there is usually pretty hard considering about 50% of what is currently out there is usually pure bullshit.
The sample was nicely worked into the song, and the verses were just as good. K-Beta never seizes to amaze me. This was cool. 3.5 |

I'm 100% with Z on this one.Even though he's not the best rapper alive, he supplies something the people can really feel. This song and Rock City's freestyle bring it down to earth.

Damnit Z, you stole my comment:
"I am a big fan of "everyday people" music. There is a place for "ballin," "pimpin," and "acting fly" music no doubt, but 95% of all music consumers deep down cannot relate to what the artist is saying." Everyone wants to talk about "keeping it real" but it doesn't get much realer than Whitefolkz. Props. |

The production is well-put, sample gives the topic a subdued emotional edge it might not otherwise had without it. And I really like the verses, connects directly with many listeners. There are very few people in the world who achieved their choice of career.

K-Beta brought this track to a new level, and i love old school hooks like this. Whitefolkz brought it on this track. I'll play this over "Beamer, Benz or Bentley" or that wack remix any day.

i thought k-beta outshined whitefolkz by a kitten's whisker, not much in it but overall his flow and slightly better rhymes got him over the line. loved the production
