Jason James - Love at the Speed of Light (Kolt 13 Remix)
Artist: Jason James
Producer: Kolt 13
Album: God's Favorites
Label: Unsigned
A remix from a French producer named Kolt 13 – not to be confused with the delicious/atrocious malt beverage Colt 45 – isn’t your average DJBooth track, but WEB is far from your average rapper. Making his Booth debut today, lyrically fearless emcee WEB hands over he and production partner I.D.e.A.’s collabo mixtape track Love at the Speed of Light to the aforementioned Kolt, who flips this tale of love gone wrong into a fast paced and distinctly electronic head-nodder. I know there will be plenty of folks out there who will find Speed of Light off-puttingly Euro, but I’ve got a feeling more adventurous ears will find themselves rewinding the track at the speed of sound. We’ll find out who’s in which camp shortly. The original Love at the Speed of Light, and much, much more high quality hip-hop, can be found on WEB & I.D.e.A.’s narcisistically titled, RefinedHype sponsored mixtape God’s Favorites, available now.

As Nathan pointed out (above) this is different. As I've written before, different can be both good and bad. In this case, different is very very good. Refreshing, crisp, and full of live this song is a great representation of the type of artist you'll find in WEB.

The beat is definitely unique. Liking the electric feel to it. Haven't heard the original, but this one is nice.

Whoa, production is pretty crazy on this one. Beat gets you pretty amped up for something big. The distorted sounds in the background are really what will have me coming back for more. However, IMO the beat clearly overshadows WEB. There are instances where you can barely hear him, as he appears to be drowning in the beat's loud (different) futuristic sound. His verses weren't bad, but when he's hard to hear all I can really say is, Ok.

that beat is mad tight ill tell yah that and it issnt different as in theophilus london different this is 80s electron tight way way into what a lotta people ears will dig so good sound we definetly digg.
its the mesmerizing of the instrumentals almost making the track seem out of place on jumbled but the lyrics hold it steady plus love the solo for the instrumental in the middle this is definitly a mp3/club hit way too go on both ends . 4 stars this is as good as they come great production and shout out too the engineer buy that guy a beer he definitley deserves it!!! |

Like RyanSx said that beat definitely amped me up!! Especially on the intro! Kinda fell off a bit after tho. Still, in-rotation.

Damn, yeah..this is different good. This sound like a Street Fighter sample (probably a little too throwback for some of ya). This production is so freakin cool, im love this because it can be both headphone AND speaker music. Rotation.

If you don't like this sick production then you must be smoking something....Because this French producer made one of the craziest (in good way) beats I've ever heard. The name of the track suits the way the production goes "at the speed of light"
WEB fit right into this perfectly and his flow worked so well with this remixed verision. I have never heard the original but I don't think it would have been nearly as good without this AMAZING production work! |

Im ecstatic to see the electro/dubstep movement making its way into hip-hop. Dubstep/etc has taken over my college town, and this production is just a taste why. You can feel the genre's production in a way that traditional hip-hop beats cannot compare.
Emphasis is shifted from the verses to the beat in a lot of this electro/hip-hop, and some may have a problem with that. I dont. If you copped one of the SXSW mixtapes (The House Fire: "Wolves"/Benzi&Elitaste;: "Freaxxx" and "Daydreaming") you've been exposed to some of this electro/hip-hop. Thanks DJ Booth for featuring this "different" ear candy to the masses. Also, if this song has you curious check out the production on this stream: http://thehood.raptorhideout.com/bg_edit.mp3 it will take you to a higher level. |

If they were going for a different sound that nobody has made yet, I do believe they have captured it.
BUT The song almost sounds like a marvelous disaster, which to some might be a thing of beauty, but to others, might be more of cacophonous rhythmic assault. And now I rate. |

I have to say, I'm a little surprised at how the positive the ratings have been so far. I thought something so left field would spark some hatred, but so far it's been nothing but (relatively) positivity. Do I need to mention that I count myself as part of that positive movement?

I really like this beat, not feeling the rest of the song though. Not really my type. On to the next one for me. Not worth the rotation.

Sometimes more in a beat is not better. It started off sounding like it could be good until you realize the beat is just a huge mess.

This beat was really dope, but it did kinda overshadow WEB. They should either make his voice louder or lower down the volume of the beat.

It's a little too weird, even for a different field. Chaotic comes to mind.
Can't enjoy it... |
