If you know your West Coast hip-hop, then you know WC – an alumnus of ‘90s crew Westside Connection as well as a veteran solo artist, he’s been a staple of the Cali scene for many a year. And if you haven’t been acquainted, well, consider yourself introduced. Released earlier this month, current single You Know Me should give you a good idea of what the South Central mainstay’s all about. With Hallway Productionz’ stomp-clap percussion, synth-bass and skittering string samples banging in the background, he delivers a booming chronicle of his daily grind – hustling, popping bottles, rolling through the hood with a bad b*tch by his side… – liberally spiced with pop-referential wit (“ shake up the audience like Mike Vick walkin’ in a dog show.”). Assisting on the guest tip are Booth newcomer Malay, who reps his region and shows off his tats on the middle, and Westside partner-in-rhyme Ice Cube, who brings the record to a strong finish with some reedy hood talk. Craving more street-ready jams? Stay tuned – WC’s fourth solo set, Revenge of the Barracuda has yet to receive a release date, but you’ll be first to know when that changes.

West coast rider music.... um, hell yeah? If Cube had more records like "You Know Me" on his last album, it probably would have regarded more favorably. Dub C and Cube go together like PB & J. Its just meant to be.

Never was a big fan of Ice Cube, and this guy doesn't seem all that great neither.

Malay, as in Young Maylay? Or are they two completely different dudes? Because it even sounds just like Young Maylay.
Yeah it is Young Maylay. I’m giving this track 5 starts just because Maylay’s in this track. Obviously the best part about this track is Maylay’s verse. Check out Young Maylay’s track “Temptations” that was on DJ Premier’s “Year Round Recrods’ album he just dropped. That track’s dope, you won’t be disappointed. Please more Maylay features this guy can really spit. |

I didn't even mention Ice Cube or WC. :)
Sorry I got a little excited when I saw that this was the first DJBooth feature that Maylay was in. Not really a big fan of Ice Cube's music anymore. I l his stuff from AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted & Death Certificate. |

This some west coast shit fo sho ma NI-aAAH!!
Dub always been straight gangstah shit, so its good to hear nothings changed. Malay does good on the track n actually makes his presence felt in the middle. Meanwhile Mr. "It was a good day" O'shea, manages to tie things up nicely. Another perfect example why Cube will always rep that west. *** The star rating didnt display - WTF is up with that?? *** - Anyway I'm giving this 4/5 |

Dub C may not be a superstar, but fans of west coast hip-hop know there hasn't been anyone more consistent over the past ten years, and he's clearly not slipping. In fact, I have to agree with Z - this is better than anything on Cube's last album. Ride to this.
By the way, I'm calling BS on @bigmhc. Even if you're never personally been a fan of WC, how could you possibly say this is garbage? It may not be your style, but at the very least respect well made music. Let's save the one stars for the music that truly deserve it. |

Being a fan of hip hop since the early 90's it feels good to hear from these guys again with another West Coast banger. The only thing this song needs is a verse from Mack 10 and then it will be perfect.
