Washington, D.C., rapper Wale lively exclaims “this ain’t a shoe song!” on the bridge of his new buzz single, Nike Boots. Currently the iTunes “Download of the Week,” the song has resonated across the country in an extremely short period of time. In a recent issue of Entertainment Weekly, the magazine named Wale as one of their ‘8 People to Watch in 2008,’ drawing a comparison between the creatively conscious MC and Chicagoan, Lupe Fiasco. Nike Boots, which is produced by Osinachi, is a song you must hear in order to judge. When a Texas artist stereotypically titles their song “Candy Paint,” the song is probably about, well, paint. But on Wale’s foot-wear titled cut, Nike Boots, the opposite couldn’t be truer.
I never heard of him before, but I guess now I know. I think the beat is really really HARD...BUT, I think you could have put almost any other artist (B.G., Paul Wall, Young Buck, three-6-Mafie, etc.) on this track and they would still get a high score! But If I am going off of what he is spitting, its really really corny and basic. Nothing leaves you in awe like the beat is supposed to make the MC do. Oh well...Its ok though.
in the city (d.c.) he gets decent radio play and in the states near. and he has made an large impact because he merged mainsteam (hip hop) and local underground (go-go) and made it worked constantly. he has a good track record other than this song. google him and listen to some of his prior tracks. i like this and his other songs but can't really get with his choice of vocabulary when rapping.
and the songs isn't about nike boots. it's the fact that we continue wearing them (no matter the season) as a d.c. logo or crest. like new york and air forces, new orleans and reeboks or cali and chucks. sorry had to revote too
He's not a "Great" artist, but he has heart, thats why I feel all his work. You can cop his entire album on his myspace for those that want to check him out. Once again Osi Osi doing his thing, hes making moves in the industry right now.
It was stated befo. The beat is real good but the lyrics made it crash. Is not even talkin about nike boots, which causes it to lose some credibility anyway. He digress from that an goes into a whole explainin/pleadin type song. I give it a two.
honestly this guy is doin big things. hes stepped his game up the past couple months and this track is definately hella fresh. keep doin your thing wale
this song really grows on you. Listen to it more than once, it has a lot more behind it then just a pair of nike boots. Wale comes hard and brings it all from the heart, he's almost a copy off of kanye. I dont see how hes unsigned.
This song dropped back in September in D.C. and MD,but this song is still crank. I got my Nike Boots, Dunks, and my 992's. Glad DMV finnally got some music on here.
And if you don't live in D.C. area then yall prob won't get the full picture.& Rico is right, Nike Boots are a D.C. thing so don't hate if u don't know what it's about. Real talk.
Wow, ok, as he proclaims... "this AIN'T a shoe song" ya'll that's dissing these lyrics must not listen. He does talk about Nike Boots, he spits that it's the one thing that bands people together because everybody's wearing them. He spits about how popular the black Nike boots are because nobody can hate when you don't wear a color meaning that gangs who seperate themselves by wearing colors is really just dividing the people as a whole. Before you diss lyrics, listen to them and what they mean. This joint is tight not only because it has a mainstream beat that people can dance or post the wall to, but it has deep lyrics but a simple chorus that people like y'all can understand when you miss the entire meaning of the song.
