Wale - BASEhead
Artist: Wale
Producer: The Bassheads
Album: Unreleased
Label: Board Administration/MMG/Warner Bros.
Happy belated holidays everyone. While you’ve taken some time to recover from all the celebrations, Wale has dropped three brand new records via Twitter for his unofficial No Days Off Campaign (when does this guy sleep?). One of the tracks leaked, BASEhead, shows that the D.C. native indicates no signs of slowing down as his lyricism dropped so fast I thought the sky was falling in my headphones. The Bassheads do their job of keeping up with or inspiring the bars (either way, good work) with an ambitious beat that hits both heavy and hard. With the stylistic diversity and raw lyrical talent (“...inspired by the ganja most nine-to-fivers just can’t afford”) Wale has been showing on these unofficial releases, listeners should have no problem biding time until his already-anticipated sophomore set hits the (digital) shelves. Keep it locked for all the latest from the D.C. heavy-hitter.

This is what some of Wale's longtime fans were hoping for when they picked up his debut album and found themselvs slightly disappointed. No hate here, though. For a "whatever, I do this cut and leak it on Twitter" record, I like it.

Damn. How did this not make the album? This would have been a nice substitute for "Let It Loose". Wale's flow on this is fantastic and, with a bit more base, the production on this is club-ready. Real solid track.

His flow on here is nuts. I enjoy the way his voice sounds on this its really smooth and as he says in the song "this flow yall can't avoid". Good song from Wale to celebrate from the festivities. The beat is tight with the bell tolls going off in the background. Wish this was a full song though, could really ride with this. Good joint Wale much props.

CATHY LYRICS fast paced but doesnt sound like a wale type flow its not slowed down at all he goes in the whole track but its still nice though
this song just sounds like a freestyle something he did for fun because theres no differenciating within his flow at all ecept for the chorus which sounds uninspired. as a treat song yes its hot as a album song no its not 3 stars its aighttt production wasnt doing it for me. |

Wale has been leaking some heat lately, though this isnt one of his bests. The production is the problem, I found it to be annoying. Wale's flow was good, though ive heard better from him.

As much as this wouldn't have really fit the theme of his album, it would have been a welcome change of pace. It's good to hear Wale on a less serious note occasionally.

Mr. no-days-off delivers! My head was boppin from the moment the beat dropped. Flow was best I've heard in while, if that makes sense.
Production was STRAIGHT FIRE! Beat was dope, every aspect of this song hit the mark. Best I've heard from Wale in a while, hope to hear more, soon! |

Wooo this is ill. Wale places some speed work on this one. He spits some sick lines and just kills the record. I need to hear more Wale tracks like this cause this is something special.
Even the production adds the fast paced feel to it. Those bells remind me of a combination of a christmas tune and those bells you hear when they come back from a commercial during an NFL game. Crazy. Wale, just keep dropping bombs like this and it will only be a matter of time before you really get your name out there. Its really sad when so many people have heard of him and I still feel like he is underrated. Keep it coming kid. |

Looove the church bells beat. At times I can't even hear him catch his breath almost like the words were just spewing up and his lungs were playing catch up. I'm not a big Wale fan but this serves as an eye opener.
Def cayenne pepper material... |

I agree, this one should have been on his debut album. You know a song is good when you start bobbing your head right from the first beat. More than solid track from the great Wale.

This isn't the Wale were use to hearing lately...but it really shows his more street and hardcore side that we haven't heard in a while. This beat hits hard and Wale murders it. He just keeps flowing like theres no tomorrow..then the track ends =( would have loved for it to be a little longer...but still hes a beast!

Beat was nice, always been a fan of Wale. He brought a nice flow with wordplay to this, but I don't see myself listening to this again.

"Knock 'em down like dominos, all in they abdominals," I like that. While, Attention Defecit was a near-classic in my book, I admit that hearing a track like this on it, would have elevated it to a Classic. One of the realest MCs in the game, coming out with new freestyles so frequently is always a big plus in my book.
Wale can flow, don't even think I had to say that cause it is so clearly evident with just about every song the man puts out. He had some real good word play and punch lines in this. The abdominals one was probably my favorite though. Gonna have this on repeat for a while, I can already tell with just one listen. Production wise, the beat serves it's purpose. Wale really needs to stick to similar production tips like this 'cause he killed this beat. Aside from stating the obvious, I'll end off by saying that Wale is clearly the most mainstream underrated rapper out there. He has me convinced that over time he could in-definitely become one of the greatest. |

Beautiful flow here.
The delivery is on time, rhythmically spoken with precision. The mechanical aspect of the song is just spot on. I thought the beat was great in a sense that it really allowed Wale's voice to stand out. The knell of the bell was like an omen of what was to come. @ DJ Brookllen, your comment about the NFL analogy was dead on. I had more of a Ragnarok, Odin imagery, but I like your description of the bell as well. Each bar opened up a room ready to be decorated, and Wale just jam-packed it with rap decor. Mad props to this man. |

Where's the base? Seems like a song with base in the name should have a bit more. Also a little short but those are the few problems I have with this one.
