Wale - Bait
Artist: Wale
Producer: Tone P (of Best Kept Secret)
Album: Ambition
Label: Board Administration/MMG/Warner Bros.
Attention fellas: if things aren’t going well between you and your girl, stay far away from any nightspots frequented by Wale. In fact, you might want to give the whole DMV a wide berth, just to be safe. Though the precise source of his uncanny female magnetism is as-yet a mystery to science, there’s no doubt about it: the Maybach Music representative’s got that Bait that draws women in like moths to a flame. Released Friday via the artist’s Twitter, this joint is pure, unadulterated swag, from Board Adminitration member Tone P‘s bombastic boardwork (featuring the larger than life instrumental stylings of D.C. Go-Go ensemble TCB) to Wale’s bold and arrogant on-the-mic stunting. That’s not to say he’s forgotten about the lyrical heads—on the contrary, he comes fast and furious with the punchlines, even seeming to crack himself up on a particularly choice couplet (“Girl stop bein’ fallacious, this Mercedes is spacious / Black and white through the city, guess this gentrification.”). This joint isn’t attached to any forthcoming project—not yet, anyways. Whatever happens, you can keep it locked to DJBooth.net for anything and everything Wale.

I enjoyed the bass and the boardwork in general was great. Definitely a confident if not conceited track from Wale as I was expecting. Had me laughing at some punchlines as well. overall not too shabby

Being from the DMV, I've followed Wale's career for a while now, and I hate to say it, but I'm a little disappointed with this track. I feel like Wale is much better lyrically than this. It's kind of disappointing to hear him fall in to the typical theme of girls, cars, and money. I love Wale because of his clever lyrics and refreshing sound, but this sounds like so many other songs out right now. It's missing that unique Wale style. That being said, its not too bad and the beat absolutely bangs.

Tone P steals the show on this, not to say that Wale dosen't deliver but how can you concetrate on his lyrics when that bass is going so hard lol

I am NOT from the DMV, and I have been nothing but disappointed with Wale for the last 2 years, but this song is DOPE. The production - as a few of our members have pointed out already - steals the show, but Wale knows exactly what do with it.

This joint isn't cutting it for me. I like Wale best over mellow tracks. His stuff with 9th is great. His freestyles are also better than these loud songs.
