Vonnegutt - What A Job
Artist: Vonnegutt
Featuring: Cutty Cartel , Aleon Craft , STS
Producer: Simon Illa and Vonnegutt
Album: $Free.99 Mixtape
Label: AVJ Records/Purple Ribbon
As those who have been paying attention to the Booth lately already know, hard-to-define crew Vonnegutt have been prepping to release their paradoxically titled $Free.99 project for a little while now (see previous release Find Your Love), and now that the big day has finally arrived they’re celebrating with new single What a Job. And if you haven’t been paying attention, consider this a dose of musical Riddlin. Produced by the headliners themselves along with frequent beat making partner Simon Illa, What a Job rides along on a characteristically rock driven foundation, rolling on a rhythm guitar line and live percussion. It’s the perfect backdrop for Vonnegutt frontman Kyle Lucas, along with rhyme compatriots Cutty Cartel, Aleon Craft and STS, to let us know just how much they love their no-so-ordinary professions. From top to bottom this is the work of some fearlessly unique artists – now it’s our job to give them some feedback in the comments below. Those digging What a Job’s feel good vibe will find plenty more to love on $Free.99, available right now via www.vonnegutt.com.

Its hard to properly describe what Vonnegutt does (or does not) sonically, but what is not hard is to say I really like it. It has a live feel (thank you, instrumentation), which also helps energize the listener, and in this particular case the production meshes real well with all the guest feature choices.

I really like this group. They are so different and refreshing. I also like how much energy they put into their music. The features are nice too. I think their instrumental style provides a space for more features, because their vibe caters to a lot of different styles. It's a fun, easy listen and I am looking forward to hearing more from them.

When I saw the title I wondered if this was a cover of Devin the Dude, Snoop and Andre 3000s track, and it is. It has nothing on the original, I mess with Vonnegutt though, good try.

Really feelin this track. Maybe it's the bomb ass production, maybe it's Aleon Craft, or maybe it's the hook. Either way this is a very good, and very solid song. I like Vonnegutt, but i didn't expect THIS. Pleasantly surprised.

I love this dark & feel-good combination. It provides a very nice instrumental backdrop for some great vocals from all the artists. More Please!

nice job on the song and lyrics but hook is just a rip from devin the dude.. and even the style on rap is a rip on them.. so nothing super special.. the original knocks this

I'd describe this as modern folk rap, and it's essentially a new or at least relatively undiscovered genre. Kind of reminds me of Whitey Ford/Everlast. Hope to hear more tracks likes this in the future.
