Females seem to be at the forefront of Voli‘s mental lately. Granted, that statement could be applied to practically any straight man on a damn-near-constant basis, but the song releases leading up to the Jersey emcee/producer/singer’s next album—from breakup jam Guns N Roses, to rock-infused bedroom burner Sound of Love, to the fatherhood-themed Sweet Sixteen—have seen him tempering his stylistic eclecticism with a singleminded focus on the women in his life. As you may have surmised from the title of his latest effort, project outtake Lady, is entirely in keeping with this trend. This time, however, the girl in question seems to have been pulled from the artist’s fantasies, rather than his everyday existence. As usual, Voli handles production as well as mic duties, overlaying a sample from indie-dance group Chromatics’ single of the same title with live instrumentation as he narrates his search for (and steamy reunion with) a woman who’s, “...easy on the eyes, hard in the heart, medium in the thighs and large in [his] thoughts.” While this joint, as mentioned above, isn’t attached to the set, those digging it will undoubtedly find more to like on Voli’s The Wall LP, due out this summer. Additionally, fans can hear the original version of Lady and much more on the Chromatics’ latest album, Kill for Love.
