Back when Vi hit the Booth with his last featured cut, My Life, his first album was Supposed 2 Be hitting store shelves before the end of ‘08.  Those plans didn’t come to fruition, and now the Chi-town rapper is aiming for a summer ‘09 release.  Getting your debut a solid drop date requires a successful record, and lead single Over Here (making its official online premiere here at DJBooth.net) demonstrates that Vi’s leaving nothing to chance; over an appropriately ambitious-sounding beat by Rich Skillz, he showcases his lyrical style while hitting all the key topics – what he’s come to the game to do (stack paper), how he deals with the haters (he blocks ‘em out), and how he attracts the ladies (easily).  On his sung hook, Brad Young answers the all-important question of what the emcee’s drinking: Patron and champagne, of course.  With its radio-ready lyrical content and trendy sound, this record should serve to get Vi’s name out there, and provide some necessary buzz in anticipation of his debut release.

First of all, the production is a little thin and uninteresting. Vi's lyrics are not anything new or special, but his flow and delivery is cool and kept me interested. The hook is not bad, its just ok. Its cool, but I probably wouldn't listen to it again.

Vi's charisma on the track helps to offset the topical nature of the record. But then again, don't hate the player - hate the game.

Young's contributions on the hook definitely are noticed and Rich Skillz turned in a real hot production. With a few tweaks, this has the same foundation of Mark and Jeff Bass' sound.

Chi-Town, stand up. Thanks for the premiere, boss!

His slow, confident drawl makes up for his somewhat limited lyricism .... but not Catchy enough to possibly gain solid radio play... but thats jus me ....
