I know what you’re thinking: “A Verse Simmonds record that isn’t about beautiful women/getting it on with beautiful women? What has this world come to?!” Well, there’s really no need to worry; on the lead single off his forthcoming debut album, the Virgin Islands singer/emcee is simply using America as a metaphor for a female he loves as passionately as the most zealous – and protective – patriot: “[I’ll] fight to keep her, battle anyone if they try to steal her…” Club-hop hitmaker Pitbull one-ups the headliner’s innocent expressions of love on the guest tip, revealing that it’s not just his heart that’s burning with patriotic fervor. Boasting a creative concept, an uptempo, synth-driven beat by Rodney “Darkchild” Jenkins and an insanely catchy sing-along chorus, this single seems destined to soar to the top of the charts like the pop-music equivalent of a bald eagle. Agree? Disagree? Either way, fans will be able to find this nationalistic banger, along with (I assume) plenty of straight-up bedroom jams on Verse’s Stories of a Bachelor LP, set to drop sometime this summer via Interscope.

I really love me some Darkchild, but can he please shut up next time!? but if he feels like talking anyway, please without autotune then??
Song isn't strong enough to make me re-listen it again or to have any impact on the charts. 2 1/2 |

this will be ok in the club...but it sounds like too much on this track...hook is straight...i could have killed on this track haha...love the breakdown but something about this song i don't like for some reason...i can't put my finger on it...maybe i feel there have could have been a lil more lyrical from verse stand point...pitbull didn't disappoint me though he gave me a visual...i think a dj would mix this song in but wouldn't play the hold song...so ill say ok

Everything you could ask for in a chart topping R&B Club Collaboration! Mainstream radio SHOULD eat this up.

Verse has an undeniably catchy voice, which always shines over uptempo production. Darkchild does that well here and the guest verse from Pitbull is just what you need for club play. This could do well...

Verse should have gotten R City to hop on, they have much better chemistry together..Beat sounds like a throw away, this ain't gonna help with his release date

This ish is hot I don't know why everyone is hating. This definitely will tear up the clubs and has radio potential. The beginning is a bit off but once it kicks into the main lyrics by Verse Simmonds, "I come from afar to see her." its like silky smooth chocolate.

One of those "I don't want to like this but goddamnit it's stuck in my head and I'm nodding my head right now" tracks. Goddamnit, Verse Simmonds won me over.
And no hate, but I had to laugh at @mmcoolman2000's "poor man's Akon" call. |

like seriously. to whoever who's rating obvious mediocre or wack songs - and I am not just talking about this particular song now - with a 4 or even 5 star rating. what the hell are ya'll smoking?? must be really consciousness-expanding!! let's say you rate this one with 4-5 stars now, so how you gonna rate a CLASSIC smash then that indeed deserved to go Top 10??? compare, analyze a record, rip it apart and leave yourself some elbowroom when you rate. like fo real.
some of you individuals make no sense to me. if you truly think this is a 4-5 star song, then you must be the ones who's BUYING the song I guess, right? well at least I hope so. if not, better shut up. thank you. P.S.: sorry Verse, has nothing to do with you acutally. I just happen to express my thoughts now here... |

Lyrics, kept simple and catchy, works well on here. Vocals, suffice to say are not Verse's strongest point, have always been bout creating a vibe and they do sound quite well with upbeat production. That being said, good song but lacks the quality to really make it stand out. Rotation-Stuff.
@Big-A - It wouldn't be fun if each and every member would be like us yo! |

This song is a banger... i believe it has everything needed to become an international crossover classic. Darkchild and Verse ... I think they have something up their sleeves.

When I saw the title, my first thought was "Does Verse want the USVI to become #51?"
This is a BANGER-if Interscope is smart, they will PUSH it-sounds just like one of Akon's hits from "Freedom"! Pitbull adds guest appeal, and Darkchild makes a serious bid for a comeback here. BTW, if the USVI does officially join the Union, everyone involved can be proud of their piece of American history... |

I agree. Very Akon-esque.
The hook's got me hooked. Pitbull was an excellent addition to this track. I can imagine other club-hoppers like Ludacris Flo Rida jumping on and ripping this up too. Darkchild shouldn't auto-tune his mini eight bars. I think he should've gotten his own verse though. Sans auto-tune. His beat, however, is amazing. Mainstream radio might eat this up if enough commercial effort is put into it. |
