Since his ‘07 collaboration with Karniege on Empire State, longtime member of hip-hop duo Cannibal Ox, Vast Aire, has been hard at work on his second solo LP, Deuces Wild. TV Land, the underground emcee’s new single, is a humorous hip-hop tale that follows classic characters from the silver screen and features production from Brooklyn’s Melodious Monk. With blaring horns, soulful guitar and a sturdy bassline as his platform, the Harlem lyricist boasts that Willie Dynamite has nothing on him: “Hell up in Harlem, Uptown Saturday Night, Foxy Brown and Claudine had a fight/ and even though it got awful it got a little worse once they jumped Sparkle.” Deuces Wild is set to be released on June 24.
Melodious Monk's production is very underground eclectic. You can bob ya head to it and listen for a while. Vast Aire's voice and delivery is listen-worthy. It's not really special or nothing, but it's not wack either. I'll throw it in rotation.
This is only going to impress the TV viewers who can reach back to the 80's and recall good 'ol times in front of the tube. Vast has great story telling abilities... it shines through on this one.
