Last we heard from Vaig – way back in summer 2009 – the Pittsburgh emcee was rolling around his neighborhood, spitting about the diverse dreams and ambitions held dear by Steel City youth. On his latest feature, the up-and-comer takes a similar, if somewhat grittier Journey through his home streets, acknowledging the unpleasant realities of ‘hood life but ultimately affirming that “Even with the ups and downs, it feels like a beautiful day.” Fortunately, the emcee has no shortage of friends to accompany him on his travels; over RobCuts’ subdued soul boardwork, the headliner is joined by a fellow Pittsburgh rapper and two rising R&B stars; Divine Seven contributes his chilled-out flows to the record’s middle portion, while John Record and Lilly Mak trade sung lines on the chorus. Different in tone from the artist’s previous features, this leak is yet more evidence that Vaig can roll with listeners wherever their life journeys may take them. Those digging this reflective, down-to-earth jam are sure to find more to their liking on the emcee’s aptly-named Theme Music to Life mixtape, scheduled to hit the ‘net sometime this summer.

Any artist bold enough to create a project with the title "Theme Music to Life" better have quite the musical experience in-store for my ears. Vaig has been on our radar here at the Booth for several years and to this point has never really disappointed me with his submissions.

Unlike any of his previous features, however, this "Journey" record really caught my attention. The central theme works perfectly with the angle of his forthcoming project and the ebb and flow of the beat accompanies his guest feature selection perfectly (or close to...). Overall, a job well done.

Never heard of this guy before, this pretty nice right here. I don't know why but I can't get over the female vocals that come in from time to time on the track. A track this good doesn't need it.

Damn, a lot of newness for me. I'd never hearda Rob Cuts beat before (that I was aware of) but this production is on point, and Vaig's flow is equally precise - dopest part is when he speeds up the flow. As for the emcees, they're good, but no necessarily standouts. Long story short, this is fresh as f**k and I'm down for some more Vaig .
