I’m not usually one to get into gossip, but Usher’s divorce may be the best thing that could happen for his career. On his last album Here I Stand he was a happily married father, and frankly kind of boring. But before he can get back to his old drama-filled ways he’ll have to sign the divorce Papers. Papers might be the only ode to a legal document in R&B history, but leave it to producer Zaytoven and Usher to turn a divorce proceeding into an anthem, even going so far as to put together a classic call and response consisting of: “All my ladies if you’re sick and tired and you’re ready to sign…” Will Usher be able to reclaim his single man swagger on his upcoming album Monster

Happy to hear from Usher, especially on a personal level like this track. I really liked the way this one sounded, I just don't anticipate this one being the lead single. A little too personal for radio success, but a solid lead track to create a buzz for the album.
Lyrics were deep on here, and that beat was made for an artist like Usher. I thought I was almost POSITIVE that Sean Garret had a big hand in this, but I must be wrong. |

I've heard everything now. I agree with Nathan that Usher is a better R&B artist (for our benefit) when he is going through misery in his life, but a song about filing divorce papers? Really? There is no way that mainstream radio is going to embrace a song about divorce. No way. If I am wrong, then I will forever ignore the radio (more than I already do now).
Good to hear him back, but he belongs in the club. "Papers" simply won't cut it.

I agree with CB. This is a good song for what its intended for, but this serves more as a buzz track, not a lead single. But don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it but it's not really my style. I like his club hits better.

To those who say Usher belonged in the club, remember what songs got him all that buzz from his third album.... "Burn" and "Confessions." With that being said, he's taking a step back by trying to follow that formula and talking about his divorce may backfire. He goes from defending marrying Tameka to not signing about filing papers. Terrible

Man, I've got so much to say about this. First, it's my goal in life to have that whispered "Nathan, Nathan" appear on any track like "Usher, Usher" does here. Second, it's hard to believe Usher actually wrote a song about a legal document. Not even R. Kelly would go there. Last but not least, what if you were in the crowd of a concert while he was performing this song and your significant other sang along to the "ready, ready" part? Worst...break-up...ever.
Let's be real: Usher is at his best when he's talking about f-ing (or how he's sorry cause he f-ed this other girl and got her pregnant). Less "Papers" and more "Confessions" Usher. We miss you, come back.

I enjoyed the lyrics in the song, very different from the other arrangements that we are used to hearing but just not too fond of the way it sounds. I believe this is just a leak to get people’s attention. |

this is def one of the lamest Usher songs I've ever heard. It's just boring, the hook is retarded. Some of the production sounds too candy-ish.
As for legal docs, I just find it hard to except a year ago he was singing about how much he loved his woman, now this. I know things change, but damn, he JUST seemed so happy and satisfied. I think Here I Stand is underrated. Peeps should take another look at it. |

This is better than anything I have heard from Usher in a while. Certainly better than his last single (or his last album for that matter). Usher always was one of the first in his generation to come with some personal details in his songs so really this is no surprise to me. If he wasn't the first he certainly was one of the best. This won't be a lead single but i will certainly be a follow up with plenty of video play. Guarantee that.

First, Usher does not belong in the club like some said. He has always excelled on the slow and mid-tempo jams (Think About You, Nice and Slow, You Remind Me, U Got It Bad, Burn, etc....).
Second as far as the theme of the song, it is not about papers, it is about ending a relationship, and papers is the tool used to say it in a unique manner (Was Rihanna's Unbrella about actually about an unbrella, no). There are plenty of songs about break-ups that have been hits, and this should be no different. |

@White Kix - Ill rephrase my statement, Usher's first single should always be a club track, because thats what the mainstream public want from him & it is the easiest way for him to create buzz for his new projects.
I agree that he can sing some great slow jamz ('Burn' is in my top 10 most played songs on my ipod), so I agree with you there, though this track dosnt compare with any of those classic tracks you alluded to. |

I'm a huge fan of usher and i think this is a lead hit for the simple fact he hasn't been out for a min i love to hear exactly what he been their because it was the totaly oppoiste of what i thought and for the people that said he makes club music better you seem not to know usher at all he wants everyone to know what he been threw alot of people have hard times puting things out like that. i really enjoyed this song i thinks it's very differnt nobody every went this far i think usher album is going to be very emotiomal but good at the same time i'm a big fan but i really didnt like here i stand album it didnt fit him. but ovral i tink raymond vs. raymond is going to be the next big thing for him. i cant wait!!!!!!!!!!!!
