When it comes to Lil Freak, the latest leak from the immortal Usher, I could talk about a lot of things. I could mention that the production, a slowly bumping, sonically steaming beat from Usher’s hit making partner Polow da Don, is absolutely hypnotic. Or I could say that after his more mature album Here I Stand sold anemically, Usher’s apparently decided to return to his XXX ways, although it’s a little disappointing to hear him hit up the auto-tune on the chorus, even if it’s light. But let’s be honest, what everyone’s really going to be talking about is the openly lesbian verse from the always controversial Nicki Minaj, who expresses her love for women with big booties and makes the first of what will assuredly be many attempts to get Cassie to leave Diddy for her. I’m looking forward to hearing how radio’s going to censor this one. Lil Freak isn’t officially part of the Usher’s upcoming Raymond vs. Raymond album, but I have a feeling it will make the final cut.

i haven't liked many of usher's recently released tracks, but THIS is somethin that completely thru me off guard. and it BANGS! i mean i cud prolly see TREY doin this song, but Usher got it. The hook is the weakest spot, but its not horrible. Nicki has came harder too but doesnt disappoint. Ive downloaded this, so its a banger.

I really like to hear some fire from Usher, like that1kid said this is by far his best effort from the new material.

I'd also like to take this time to give some mad props to Nicki Minaj - this girl can spit. Her flow and energy on every track is unmatchable.

You can always count on Polow to bring the fire, and this sexy beat is perfect for the clubs.

i like the beat, but nicki's verse is @*#$! wack. did she mention santa's reindeer? anyway i hope a remix comes out, that would propel it to banger status, but nicki ruined it.

also, good beat, but a bit too little energy during the verses. during the hook its fire though

I agree this is the best material Usher has released but it's also kinda immature. I would expect this from Chris or Trey but Usher just sounds wrong saying lines like "are you f**kin' with me" and "do you wanna be my little freak". Idk for some reason it's hard for me to get over that but other than that the song is cathy and the autotune was smartly used light.

For those who don't know, I can't stand Nicki, since she's a female she stands out but instead of being original she's using the same blueprint of what others have done (Kim/Foxy/Amil) but just sounds weirder (hearing her voice getting deeper isn't sexy). Polow is really why even though everything I've said has been negative, the song is still in my head and it makes me wanna like it.

nice, some reason it sounds like it sampled the same song as Ying Yang Twins "Ghetto Classics" when the horns come in

Where do I start on this one...well, despite the massive overload of the f word, this song has a KILLER beat, AMAZING swag, and a sexy yet intelligent verse spat by Nicki Minaj (which turned me on, I mean, WHAT GUY DOESN'T ENJOY A GIRL TALK ABOUT GIRLS?) This song is a bit explicit, but hey, it works!

Holy @*#$!. When I first heard this I could not stop listening to it.

The beat is sick. I'm pretty sure Polow is incapable of making a sub-par track; everything the dude makes is banging.

Usher sounds good on here, which surprised me considering his last few terrible efforts (Papers, Fed Up, etc.). As usual Nicki kills it.

In rotation. All I'll say is what I said on RefinedHype:

Is the late 2000s going to be going to be rememberd as R&B's "My First Parental Advisory sticker" era? First Mario, then Ray J, then Rihanna, then Robin Thicke, then Omarion in January, and now Usher? We will see...(with this many F-bombs, I think we could see that PA sticker-then again, after the well-crafted but poorly-sold "Here I Stand," that could be just what he needs...Of course, it wouldn't be his first PA-remember "My Way"?)

I'll agree that this is the best recent material I've heard from Usher. Polow is consistent as hell and Nicki adds an... interesting addition so to speak, but hell it works for me.

It’s not a bad song, but Usher as an industry vet needs to deliver stronger, more impactful material. I think it sounds a little desperate and comes across as stale, in terms of subject matter. Beat and Nicki saves the song to an extent, though. Still, okay at very best.

Usher obviously is aiming at getting more radioplay and drifting off from the grown slow jam music right now. The beat is simple but pretty catchy. Usher is pretty good and Nicki Minaj is alright but I was expecting more from Usher. Rotation

I liked this!!
Ushers last couple tracks have been disappoints to say the least.
The beat bumps..
And on the Nicki subject I think she's the female version of Lil Wayne with her crazy wordplay!!
Nicki always keeps your attention through her whole verse!!
Banger!!!!

Beat is good & Usher sounded alright, though Nicki just annoys me to be honest. On some tracks she sounds alright (lyrically), though her voice just pisses me off most of the time.

3.5 - Mainly for the production

Like most of you I find the beat incredible, however I'm with Mr. Top Hat on the fact that Usher should be past this type of topic. This song is alil immature for usher in my opinion. It still bangs though...

Polow's beats are So SICK! This production is super-tight! Usher sounds EXCELLENT on here. I hope his next album is better than the last one. I thought that was his worst album in a long time. This is a sick track. Nice songwriting. Nicki is EVERYWHERE! I'm still not sure how to feel about her, but her flow is catching on me. I don't even like female rappers at all anymore, but she does her thing on here. Easily a BANGER track!
