Looks like Usher has finally found himself a Hot Tottie. To be honest, I’m not really sure what a Hot Tottie is, but I do know that Usher and Polow Da Don make records that the clubs play until they overheat like your first Super Nintendo. (Don’t act like you don’t remember Love in This Club.) On Hot Toddy, Polow laces a futuristic, yet smooth riding instrumental that automatically makes you sway side to side. Usher brings in Ester Dean for assistance on the chorus (she also wrote it), creating a melody that reminds us of a Wayne Wonder-esque song during the Dancehall trend in ’03. Towards the end of the track, there’s a beat breakdown and Jay-Z comes in with a stellar verse to add the finishing touches. I can see this getting decent spins in the club, to go along with the spinning in our head from too many shots. I can only hope the Booth uses better judgment when rating this track than they did at the bar last night. Hot Tottie is the second single from Versus, Usher’s new EP due out August 24.

This can certainly get burn at the club, but it won't be able to touch the success of "OMG" and forthcoming success of "DJ Got Us Fallin in Love." Regardless, 2010 turned out to be a great year for U-S-HER.

This could work well as a club track. However, I don't really like the vocals hear with the bigger instrumental. The beat here seems to overshadow the vocals. It won't do as well as his other singles recently, and this may be my least favorite of them, but it's not bad.

This track barely makes rotation for me, and it's the HOV's verse that provides the change in monotony to get it there. The production is pretty good, and Jay's verse fits it nicely. I really disliked Usher's vocals, because I know he is capable of much much better.

Polow never fails on these beats. I see radio and club success, but definitely not on the success of its predecessor "DJ got us Fallin' in Love".

Lil Freak still remains the best song Usher's made since Confessions...
This tracks alright, though my high expectations wernt meet. Anything that has Polow on the boards, Usher as the lead artist and a guest verse from Jay should be a near classic. 3.5 |

I feel like I'm enjoying the material off Versus much more than I was the material off Raymond v Raymond. Were there tracks he was holding onto? Why? Anyway, nothing incredible but a solid club track in every aspect. There's a rumor going around that Ester's vocals might get replaced at the last minute (by Ciara?). If so, the song's weakest link will be upgraded significantly.
(By the way, a Hot Toddy is an adult beverage. It's a delicious drink under the right circumstances, but a horrible name for a track.)

Usher's energy wasn't consistent throughout the track. He randomly got passionate, then bored again. Jay was great on this. Polow too.

This track got me moving. Usher was laid back on the track but he fit the beat to me. Jay had a good verse, but I wanted more Ester. As for the beat. It sounded way too much like "On to the next one".

I'm going to give this a 5......seriously I bang this track all day and night...bangin beat from Polow, monstrous verse from Jay and Usher slays this track! Polow has definitely been my favourite producer for a while now, the man just keeps bringing the heat!
I agree with the majority, I'm not sure how this will work on a mainstream level, but urban radio should eat this up for sure! |
