U-N-I - Land of the Kings (Remix)
Artist: U-N-I
Producer: Ro. Blvd
Album: A Love Supreme 2.0
Label: Unsigned
Last summer, U-N-I brought us Land of the Kings, a rock-influenced track that earned very mixed reviews from Booth readers. While I have a hunch that the record’s genre-fusing sound might go over a little better today than it did back then, we may never know for sure – on the newly-released official remix (previously leaked to the net in an unfinished form), producer Ro. Blvd trades the original‘s propulsive instrumental for something considerably more laid-back, and switches the sung chorus for a chopped and screwed sample. The revamped, Southern-flavored beat, of course, is a perfect match for guest emcee Bun B, who follows up Thurzday and Y.O.‘s brand new bars with a braggadocio-packed closing verse. So, does this radical revamp surpass the original? In a world where “remix” often means “the same song, with one new verse,” it most definitely gets an “A” for effort. Whichever flavor of freshness you prefer, though, you’ll be able to find plenty more from the Inglewood mainstays on their new A Love Supreme 2.0 re-release, which hit iTunes this Tuesday.

Bun B is a good artist so im gone try not to let my bias have a effect on my rating...wordplay in first verse is not bad at all...i don't really like the approach he went with his flow though he should have killed it...the hook is garbage...i don't really like the beat...it sounds like its not mix well at all...i expected a lil bit more from Bub B

Definitely feelin the fact that they actually "remixed" it. A little more laid back but still solid. The hook wasn't bad ans went well with the production. All of the verses were decent too. Rotation.

MUCH better than the original version and as GStan already mentioned they get major props for the "real remix" approach.
But like I've said before, U-N-I isn't for everyone. So I am not sure if the change-up will change listener minds. Hopefully, it will. |

Definitely feeling the remix more, but I might just be one of those "UNI isn't for everyone" people DJ Z mentioned. For some reason I just can never connect to their music. No disrespect, this just isn't doing it for me, even with the decent Bun B verse.

I fall into that "U-N-I isn't for everyone" category as well.

Im a real big fan of UNI. This needs a few more listens before I give the verdict. On first listen its dope, but I was expecting more. The beat might overshadow the verses.

Hearing this by itself (w/o hearing the original), I liked it. The production is pretty good and U-N-I sound good on here. Bun B was aight, but he could have done better imo. After hearing the original, this is a big improvement from that. Overall, I haven't heard that much U-N-I but I like this.
