Tyga - Hypnotized
Artist: Tyga
Producer: KeY Wane
Album: Black Thoughts Vol. 2
Label: YMCMB/Universal Republic
A little time in the industry can really do a number on a guy. Take Tyga – once a fresh-faced youngster with a taste for Coconut Juice , the SoCal native now spends his days so high off the combined effects of fame, money, weed and liquor that, to the untrained eye, he looks like a man Hypnotized. Whatever’s happened to the rest of his faculties, the man’s mic skills have only grown sharper – if further proof is needed, simply peep the latest leak off his forthcoming, long-delayed mixtape. Key Wane sets a fittingly faded mood on the production tip, mixing staticky percussion and ambient piano/synth loops as the emcee showcases his slow flows. Though he admits he’s often haunted by Black Thoughts, he’s still damn pleased with his success to date, as evidenced by the scatterbrained braggadocio that packs his bars: “I’m on a mission to Mars – Don Cheadle / I’m a legend, y’all ordinary people.” While Tyga’s eagerly-anticipated Black Thoughts Vol. 2 still has yet to receive a solid drop date, Hypnotized may provide just the push it needs to finally see the light of day; either way, keep your browsers locked to the Booth for all the latest news and tunes.

I am going to assume that the slight distortion on Tyga's vocals was calculated (otherwise, this might need a new mix). Other than that, "Hypnotized" is a solid record. It shows Tyga's growth and maturity and an ability to select a wider variety of production styles, which differ greatly from just two years ago.

Is it just me or does this sound very Drake-esque? I never thought much of Tyga; I assumed he was just a radio friendly artist, without alot of versatility. However, this song changed that, Tyga raps over a slower beat, demonstrating his ability to hold down the mic on different kinds of songs. It is not a standout track, but is worth a listen. I’m sure fans of Tyga will enjoy hearing a different vibe.

I agree this does kind of have a Drake style to it. I am not a fan of Tyga's work, so maybe that's why I am not feeling this song too much.

This song has that Black Thoughts 1 feel to it. I really don't understand where everybody get the "drake feel" from. It's a chill track. Tyga lyrically is a monster in it. I think he's gonna be pretty up there after hearing some of his songs/frestyles he's put out there from well done, black thoughts, and newer.

Solid song. Tyga is slowly becoming one of my favorite rappers out. If he keeps growing he'll be a real problem

I guess I'm in the minority, I'd bump this if I was riding late night. Key Wane did his thing on the beat, I love the way it starts. I've never been that impressed with Tyga as a lyricist but it sounds like he's trying to be versatile on this one.

It's a solid effort from Tyga, but I am still not a fan of him. If he keeps improving and making records like this, I will have to reconsider.

Tyga’s wordplay was nice, but it was still average. Just another mixtape cut.
