This weekend, the Internet was abuzz over leaks from two new artists signed to Young Money Entertainment; in addition to Nicki Minaj‘s I Get Crazy (also featured today), one of the tracks off Tyga‘s sophomore album, The Introduction, hit the Web. With the song already circulating, Tyga’s management team has decided to make lemonade of their lemons and roll with Lay You Down as the emcee’s new buzz single. And why shouldn’t they? The Cali native demonstrates exactly why he won that 2008 Best of the Booth award with inspired verses and some smooth hook vocals. Of course, Weezy‘s responsible for a good portion of the cut’s appeal—in addition to contributing ad-libs and a closing verse, he lays a guitar track over David D.A. Doman’s instrumental. It’s safe to say that Lay You Down is a musical work of art—one that should only heighten fan anticipation for the full gallery’s September opening.

I'm really feelin this piano-laced production by Chester French. It is an interesting beat for Tyga to spit on, who did decent wit it. He actually surprised me a bit by not being too bad. I liked the mellow hook to fit wit the entire vibe. Weezy was aight, but he did bring his style which fits with the track.

This is a cool track. The hook is smooth and Tyga's verses were decent, but a little too short. I liked the guitar-style production. Wayne was tight. Rotation cut overall.

I'm feelin this production, it's what really sets this joint apart ... Weezy needs to drop the box unless hes on his "Rebirth" ish ... could have murked this beat (remember "Studio Luv" remix) ... but im diggin his ad-libs lately ... I have mixed feeling about Tyga, hes good but nuthin amazing ... Overall its different ... it might catch on...

The acoustic sound mixed with whoever that is blessin@ the hook makes this automatically some shit I can rock to. This has to be the first track from the kid Ty@a that I can feel thus far. This son@ sounds better the more I hear it.

Smooth production... kept me listenin' and the chorus seemed well thought out. It feels awkward to see Tyga to be spittin' on this beat nevertheless he was sik. Not sure about Lil' Wayne's contribution to the track other than him swearing his ass off at random points in the song, I mean random.

Tyga held his own here. Maybe this is why people voted for him in last year's BOTB awards...
Wayne was not needed here, but hey... I'm sure a good amount of you wouldn't even listen to this record without his name in the title, so it worked in that sense. |

Beat and production are the highlights of this track. Lyricaly Tyga could have done better he seems to ramble at times, Wayne started ended it nice, but I would have liked to hear more of him on this track, I have a feeling he would have killed it. But then again you don't want to outshine the real artist (Tyga)

The production on here is VERY TIGHT! I like the piano and guitar and everything about it. Tyga sounds cool on here. He is another artist that is slowly starting to grow on me. He isn't that great, but he goes with the flow on here. I like the chorus a lot. Lil Wayne Straight KILLED this track! He makes the track better. BANGER ALL DAY!

Tyga doesn't have the skills to keep up with the Young Money market plan; throw hundreds of tracks on the internet to generate buzz. His lyrics were very weak. Other than his verses, the track was sick. It had a Tie My Hands vibe. The tracks a banger, but Tyga needs work.

Hook and production OOON POINT! Rappers make it 4. FIRE VERSES would make this classic.

Im very thankful for these end of week reviews, especially considering I wasnt album to check DJ Booth regularly for the last 2 weeks.
Back to this track, the production was good, Tyga came correct & the hook was solid. Wayne straight out ripped his verse, im starting to understand what all the fuss is about (though I still dont rate him in my top 5). The West Coast has suddenly found a good amount young & hungry MC's to rep there scene. For the last 5 years its only been Snoop & Game worth mentioning. |
